Meet Dornaz Maraghehchi: Founder/Owner of DermaRx & Medical Aesthetician

We had the good fortune of connecting with Dornaz Maraghehchi and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dornaz, what role has risk played in your life or career?
I think that taking risks is something that must be done sometimes in life. No one knows the future or how somethings will workout and you can prepare for things as best as you can but sometimes the very last step will be that you will have to take that leap of faith and take a risk. I always say it is better to try and fail and learn than to never try and know at all. It is a major factor for growth and learning. As a business owner I have had to take many calculated risks and in my experience this has been something that has always helped me move up in my career and truly has helped me grow. Without taking risks, you will always remain in the same spot and will not be able to expand.

What should our readers know about your business?
DermaRx is very different from your typical facial spot. We provide medical treatments meant for people suffering with acne, acne scarring, uneven tone and texture, discoloration and hormonal melasma. You will never walk into my clinic and receive a feel-good type of facial where you get a facial massage and some sort of steam treatment. We strive to provide result-based treatments that don’t always feel so good but make you look great. Not only do I put my clients on a tailored treatment plan but I also put them on a strict yet simple home care routine. At DermaRx we use our own product line that I know deliver the results I want to see in my clients. I am most proud of being able to bring my business to life and being able to operate it as I have. It has been a tough journey getting to where I am now. As I mentioned earlier, there was a time when I was in school from 8 am to 12 pm then I had to immediately work from 1 pm to 10 pm everyday. I did this for a long period to be able to pay my bills and pay for school and to get the education and experience I needed to be able to bring my passion of having my own skincare business to life. There were so many times when I wanted to give up but I never allowed myself to fall into that hole. I woke up everyday and had my vision set on what I wanted and I knew I can accomplish anything in this world that I want, so I did. I want the world to know that there is a solution to your skin problems. You don’t have to live with chronic acne. you don’t have to take crazy medications that don’t work to clear your face, you don’t have to try a million different things and see dermatologists that can’t guide you correctly. There is a safe place for you where you will be heard and helped in achieving you skin dreams and goals.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Luckily Los Angeles has many places to see and a lot of things to do. I would take her to get some good dinner, such as Fia in Santa Monica, Katana, Catch LA, Avra, etc. During the days I would take her to see the beaches, most likely Santa Monica Pier and Malibu. There are some good restaurants in Malibu as well where we can have a nice brunch. I love renting bikes and biking from Malibu to the Santa Monica Pier and back. Fortunately, there is plenty of opportunity in Los Angeles for good weather to do this. Malibu Creek is also a great hiking spot with a beautiful scenery. I am more of a homebody but once in a while I like to get out and go on an adventure and see new things. A few years ago I did the hike to the Hollywood sign and it was a bit tricky. I got lost a few times and it took a while but once I made it I was so satisfied. That has become one of my favorite memories and I would love to experience that again. Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My parents have been very emotionally supportive in my journey to fulfilling my passion of being a skincare business owner. They always held me accountable in my life and always pushed me to do my very best and never give up. Now when I look back at the tough times of being in school and working 15 hours a day, I am truly grateful for it as it has shaped me into the person and entrepreneur that I am today.
