We had the good fortune of connecting with Dr Alison Curdt and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Dr Alison, have you ever found yourself in a spot where you had to decide whether to give up or keep going? How did you make the choice?
There comes a pivotal point in someone’s life where they are unsure whether to keep going or give up. My philosophy is to embrace failures and to learn from there. In fact, I often learn more from my failures than my successes! There comes a point when too many failures, disappointments, and lack of goal attainment occurs and its time to pivot. For me, I assess this based on whether what I’m doing makes me truly happy and if the grind to succeed still motivates me. If the answer is yes, I keep grinding, keep going, and look for alternative ways to attain success and reach more goals. If the answer is no, and I’m feeling burned out, not motivated, or have exhausted my passion for the project, I table it and move on. The good news is, if I decide later down the road I’d like to try again, I haven’t burned a bridge and am free to pick back up the project, re-evaluate with a fresh set of eyes and begin again.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Im a full time golf coach, still play professional golf, and am a licensed mental health provider. This trifecta gives me a leg up in the sports world as I can teach, do, and help. I love helping people find the best version of themselves, as I’m always constantly seeking to refine my best version of me. It certainly hasn’t been easy, but am grateful for my self-discipline and perseverance to press on when things get rough. I’ve overcome challenges by having a good support network around me and being comfortable communicating my feelings to get help. We can’t do this on our own-so having those around us who are willing to help is key! I want the world to know about my brands Alison Curdt Golf and Curdt Performance Therapy that you can reach your goals with a good plan in place, the right amount of support and help, and a bit of perseverance to follow your dreams.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Besides all the touristy things to do (Universal, Beverly Hills, Santa Monica Pier) my two favorite sports are a hike at Runyan Canyon Park and a movie out at Cinespia in Hollywood Forever Cemetery. The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
