We had the good fortune of connecting with Dr. Maria Cozette and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dr. Maria, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
The most important factor behind my success is mentorship and throughout my life, I’ve had the unwavering support of my parents and influential thought leaders who not only believed in my vision but encouraged me to pursue even what might have seemed impossible. Namely, Dr. Satinder Dhiman who offered priceless guidance and encouraged me to pursue a doctorate, as well as my parents who have always supported my every endeavor. These individuals have all inspired me and inadvertently own a piece of my success.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am most proud of becoming a multipotentialite. So many people have told me to choose one path or discouraged me from pursuing multiple facets. The truth is, all of my facets, whether creative or otherwise, have nurtured one another. I’ve been in the performing arts since the age of 4 and never imagined that I’d go on to obtain an MBA and doctorate which led me to become a university professor. I feel it is a privilege to impact so many young lives and hopefully, I inspire them as much as they inspire me. I believe overcoming the countless challenges in the entertainment industry contributed to my resilience and fueled my ambition. I’ve learned that talent has very little to do with being successful. It is all about working hard and never giving up. I just released my 6th studio album, “With Love, MC,” which is doing really well with fans all around the world. I also recently received the greatest news regarding research I had conducted in my doctoral program at USC. My dissertation was about female leadership and the countless challenges we face and barriers we must overcome in the workforce. Based on my research, I designed the “Women First: Leadership and Professional Development Program.” The California State University of Los Angeles has officially adopted the program to offer certification to students in the Spring of 2022. It is a dream come true…

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Two words: Road trip. I’m an LA native and that comes with appreciating the versatile landscape that is Los Angeles. Go 45 minutes any which way, and you’ll find yourself at the beach, mountains, valley, or desert. Los Angeles also has some of the best restaurants and venues. Lastly, shopping! You’ll find boutiques filled with pieces from local designers and creators. LA is all about celebrating art, music, and creativity.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My parents, sister, mentor, Dr. Satinder Dhiman, and Team Cozette who works tirelessly to bring my vision to life.
