We had the good fortune of connecting with Dr. Tongie Scott and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Dr. Tongie, what habits do you feel helped you succeed?
The habits I feel helped me to succeed are 1) Believing that I have everything within me for success. 2) Learning the Principle that Success is a choice.
3) Removing the stigma that I made too many mistakes and that I’m disqualified for winning.
3) Changing my mind and Becoming the Work I desired to see.
4) No longer working for money-instead Influence.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I have been very fortunate to be able to own and operate a nanny and home care agency, Me and My Nanna, located in Atlanta, Ga. A weekly radio and podcast, Dr. Tongie Show, broadcast on LA Talk Radio and soon to be syndicated. I also have recently established a publishing company, KaddKena Publishing, where we are currently working with a soon to be newly minted author. Not to mention my management and consulting company, Existence Now, Inc., where we have consulted countless rising and emerging talented acts in the entertainment industry. And now, with my newly released book, Journaling With Dr. Tongie: Deciding to Move Forward, I’m dividing my time between Los Angeles, St. Lucia and Atlanta.
What sets me apart from others is my mindset and the Principles that I live by. See, before I had a “mind-shift”, my life resembled that of someone who unsuccessfully lived in mediocrity. I was RELIGIOUS! Here’s what I mean, I didn’t have a Faith issue-my issue was believing that if I had Faith-but little to no WORK, that I could somehow “beg God” to do what He had already given me authority, power and sovereignty to do. I was introduced to the Kingdom of God/Heaven in 2009. But it wasn’t until 2015 that I finally decided to seek first God’s original intent for mankind that I discovered His Purpose for my life. And since I abandoned old habits/traditions and am now learning these Principles-I’m living a life that I could have never imagined. I am so very grateful and that’s how I live-Daily Gratitude.
I am most proud of my ability to operate in my Purpose-every single day of my life. Whether it’s working to inspire a Client through my consultations/sessions that have been created and proven to assist with those who are juxtaposed between moving forward with sheer abandonment in their lives or allowing Fear, Regret or Paralysis of Analysis to run rampart. These Principles work and I work them with a demonstration of a Life worth living every day.
Often I’m asked ‘How Did I Get Here’’. And I must be Honest…Open…& Sincere….when answering. It was the lessons that resembled failing and being unproductive that caused me to abandon everything that wasn’t working in my life. Changing my mind and learning concepts have caused me to Win! For you see, it wasn’t until I learned the art of planning and strategizing that I truly became my Intentions. Over the years I’ve learned that unless you change your mind-and serve others with your Gifts, you will never experience a life where you have Control over every circumstance in your life!
Whenever you have a change of mind-you will ALWAYS experience difficulties. This is a law that has been in existence since the beginning of time. However, these difficulties are not allowed in your life to stop you. No! Difficulties, hardships, or anything that forces you to question your decision to Live in your Purpose should be seen as Tests for Authenticity. A couple of instances were my having malignant papillary carcinoma of the thyroid (thyroid cancer that began to spread into my nodules) at age 22. And having been homeless twice and losing everything I’ve owned 4-5 times were just a few of the tests that I’ve had to endure.
I overcame, and still do, every challenge by changing my mindset. I ascribe to a Truth that everything in my life is allowed by God. Not to discourage me-but to test my Faith. And because I study my Constitution (the Bible) daily in order to know what’s on God’s mind; my ability to live from the inside-out and accept that everything I need-I already Have-has caused me to have Heaven on earth.
A lesson that I have learned along the way that has catapulted me into a dimension reserved for people who walk in Purpose is to NEVER EVER QUIT-NO MATTER WHAT!!! Quitting is forfeiting. My life is one that is lived out loud! Now don’t get me wrong, there were countless times when I wanted to quit. I cried, screamed, yelled, became grossly angry and for a moment in time-dared to doubt God. Then I questioned-what would those thousands of beautiful Souls say about the God I have boasted about? Then I accepted a Principle that has taught me to stop working for money. Today, I work for Influence.
I want the world, and those I served with my Gifts to know that I am who I say that I am. I live my life on Purpose. I have been sent to Inspire-Motivate-Uplift and Transform the lives of those who desire MORE. The brand that I’ve cultivated is one that causes me to know that I cannot get to my Destination without Assisting You to get to yours!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Should my best Friend come for a visit to LA, the first place I’m taking her is to the Santa Monica Beach. No…not to walk around or simply sit-it would be imperative that my Best Friend free her mind and be in the moment. And because I enjoy riding a beach comber from Venice Beach to Santa Monica to Malibu, our first visit would be to Jay’s Bicycle Rentals. Next, we’d go to the Palmanade, located in Santa Monica. Grabbing a quick cup of coffee, tea or refresher from Starbucks would be a great addition to our outing. Next, we’d grab a tasty lunch from Fat Sal’s in Hollywood. And, since we’re in Hollywood, stopping by the Walk of Fame trying to identify our favorite celebrities, is perfect way to enjoy the afternoon. Arranging outings to the Getty, Griffith Observatory, Disneyland, or a winery in Temecula is definitely something we would engage in for additional fun. And how can I not venture to the beautifully manicured garden, Descano Gardens, located in Pasadena, for amazing flowers and delicious lunches.
Of course, going to the Grove in the Fairfax District or perhaps standing in line to be an audience member on the Price Is Right or Dancing With the Stars would be an absolute must!
And lastly, how could I NOT take my Best Friend for a hike in Griffith Park. A trek up to the Observatory via various proven trails would most definitely cause my Best Friend to appreciate the great outdoors more than ever.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
When I think about my “Shout Out To”, I think about my quest to understand my Purpose-the “Why” in my life. And I must acknowledge my cultivated relationship with God-through Jesus the Christ. And my intentional pursuit to understand the Principles of the Kingdom of God from the late great and esteemed teacher and author-Dr. Myles Munroe who has been the catalyst for my growth. Of course, I cannot forget Ronald Davis, profound author and teacher of the Kingdom Mandate.
