We had the good fortune of connecting with Drea Holland and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Drea , life can be so busy as an adult, and for many, especially those who’ve moved to a new city, making friends can be hard. We’d love to hear your thoughts?
It’s funny, but I feel like making new friends as an adult is actually easier than ever before. With social media you have the opportunity to see what people are about. What’s important to them and who they really are, so you know right away if the two of you click. For me I had to discover who I was in order to be a good friend. Once you are happy and secure in your own life, your efforts to reach out and love others are authentic and fueled by love instead of the need for acceptance and you know right away who is good for you (your life, family and professional brand), and who to not grow as deep with!
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My passion for and love of helping others through fitness and nutrition started through my own personal experience and transformation. I have battled weight my entire life. After having my last child and gaining 80 pounds, I decided to learn as much as I could about proper exercise and eating to lose the pregnancy weight and discover how to keep it off for good. The more I learned, the more I loved everything about changing your life and body. I competed in and won 2 NPC Bodybuilding shows with the help of an amazing coach (Scott Turner) and knew this was what I was also called to do for others. I believe we go through things in order to gain wisdom and experience to use to help others. My personal experiences have given me the compassion that (combined with knowledge and training) help me understand my clients and be able to better serve them.
Any great local spots you’d like to shoutout?
Downtown Gilbert is always a win for me! I love everything Gilbert! The restaurant’s and environment (especially at night) are my favorite! We would have breakfast at Liberty Market, lunch at Postinos and dinner at Sushi Brokers! I make all my friends hike with me (we have the best, most beautiful trails here!). So maybe an early morning Camelback Hike or a drive to Sedona for a hike to Devil’s Bridge.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My family. Especially the 2 incredible boys who love me unconditionally, believe in and support me. My friends who lift me up and help me do “me”more real and authentically. My work family at Northington Fitness and Nutrition and Body Envy Fitness. My clients. They have grown into my family and help me always want to do more and be more to help them achieve their goals.
