We had the good fortune of connecting with Drex Lee and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Drex, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I decided to pursue a creative career in the beginning because I couldn’t find any other job. Being creative was the only thing I was good enough at to earn a living. Then when I tried pursuing ventures outside of a creative career, I wasn’t as happy so I left all those other ventures behind and decided to only pursue this one and only career.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I started and popularized the Epic 1 Shot! It’s a cinematic long take, and I do it with a cellphone mostly hand held or sometimes with a selfie stick to get extra reach. I’m excited that it took the world by storm and aspiring filmmakers are using it in their arsenal.

I believe that every road to success isn’t easy, and if it was, I don’t think it’d be worth it. So above all the negativity, the door slams, the rejections… it’s a belief to yourself that you’re what you’re worth and if the market doesn’t value it at that, then it’s your mission to go out and prove what the value is. So that’s exactly what I did. If the market didn’t like my work, well now more than 14 million followers of mines do like my work.

My story of success is not having the fear to try and to fail, because only in failure do you learn the most. Outside of film work, I’ve jumped the gun and tried so many other business ventures to moderate success, but you will only be the most successful doing what you loved, which is the world of film.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
The city of Los Angeles is never a dull city in which I sulk in a lot of inspiration from. From downtown, to West Hollywood, to Culver City, all the way down to San Gabriel Valley, there are so many different stories being told from just everyday happenings. I would walk the strip at all of these locations and point out all the different things going on.

One of my favorite spots though is the Grand Central Market in Downtown LA, where the design is retro enough for me to design a thousand shots behind and the food selection doesn’t hurt either.

The Perch is another spot to enjoy the city views while sipping on a nice cold drink. This is where I look out and dream of what I’ve been dreaming of all along… That I’ve made it to the city of LA.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
This shout out is to all of those that have been following my journey since day one. It wasn’t easy since 99% of the comments were negative, but that 1% that were positive eventually grew to the 99.9% of the fans today. So because of your unrelenting support, I am where I am now, so THANK YOU and SHOUT OUT to you!
