We had the good fortune of connecting with D’Sheadra Benford and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi D’Sheadra, what are you inspired by?
I am inspired by everyday people who strive to live and breathe in a variety of different arenas while finding happiness in each one regardless of difficulty. Everyone must adjust depending on what they are doing and/or in different settings. All my creations can be worn in every situation possible and can strengthen a person’s comfort level while adjusting. This is the energy that gives me the ability to create.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Focused on couture fabric-based pieces the Krafty Chick creates quality jewelry and accessories that assures each client has a piece that makes them feel and look fabulous. Starting off as a hobby to manage her stress and anxiety the Krafty Chick developed into a full fledged business. Offering products for the culturally conscious family. We recognize that how a person feels can be directly affected by how a person looks and therefore creates jewelry and accessories that can enhance a person’s mood and confidence in a positive way. Most of the materials used are ethically sourced and/or purchased from other small businesses. We got to this point in our entrepreneurship journey through hard work and recognizing that our path is our path. It is easy to get caught up in comparing our business to others and going down the rabbit hole of self-doubt. As a company we move according to the plan, and we accept that our actions are best for us. We also push jealousy off our shoulders and applaud the successes of others. There is enough in the marketplace for ALL OF US!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to shout out my friend Dana Todd Pope, Fine Artist. As a collector I have always admired her work and would see a part of me in her work (representation matters!) When I was unemployed, she recognized my strength in project management and brought me on as her manager. Through this opportunity she helped me as well. Dana continued to give the motivation to dig out of a depressive state by showing me that it is ok to follow my passion and work a full-time job or not. More importantly that my worth as a person is not tied to a position. It is how you move in this world. So I thank her for being a supportive figure in my life.
