We had the good fortune of connecting with Dusty Schlabach and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dusty, can you share a quote or affirmation with us?
Favorite Quote: “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” – Dusty Schlabach

In today’s society we are sold an abundance of products that we don’t actually, need which turns into addiction and/or an ongoing dependency. Everything we actually need are the things we already have (for the most part when we are talking about hair), we don’t need to be sold anything and as soon as we realize that we will break the chain and can become healthier and happier for it.

So when I say if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it, i’m referencing what I tell my clients all of the time, which is that they don’t need to be sold all of these products that are marketed to them. Their hair in it’s natural state is going to be the best and healthiest version of their hair. Keeping things simple and taking a less is more approach will not only benefit their hair but themselves as a whole.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
As a stylist, if I could send a message to the world it would be that each human is unique, which makes their hair unique. I want people to stop wishing for what they don’t have. If I can show a client what their natural texture can do and help them fall in love with what they have naturally then i’ve done my job.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Are we talking pre-covid? ‘Cause if you’re talking post 2020 you’re guess is as good as mine, but if you’re talking prior to that then you wont find any better sushi than in the valley, so make a stop at Yuzu for that, if you’re trying to tear it up a bit hit Warwick on a Wednesday night, Stella bar in Silverlake for a drink, Griffith Park for a hike and take a drive out to OC for the beach cause Malibu is a nightmare to get to and I hate rocks on the beach.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Osho, but he’s dead… so i’ll have dedicate this shoutout to my fiancee and business partner, Karmen Aghazarian. She and I co-own Thairapy Salon together and she was the one who laid the foundation for me to build my career as a stylist.
