We had the good fortune of connecting with Taejun “TJ” Lee and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Taejun “TJ”, do you have a favorite quote or affirmation?
“One day at a time”. Being present and bettering myself in any aspect from the day before. Every day is another opportunity to go forward. During my time in rehab from my spinal cord injury, being told what I could do and couldn’t do from my diagnosis I made sure I did whatever I was able to do.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
2020 was difficult for Offset Med as we have had many opportunities lined up but we were resilient to adapt to the online space and not go under our first official year as a business. We set ourselves apart by always learning and giving back our knowledge and experience through a collective of different health and movement professionals, we are trying to be actively part of the conversation for the greater community. It took me years of being in the healthcare system to understand the disparities to want to help people on the preventive and community side. It was not easy as the healthcare system and the foundations are set, to find others with the passion of wanting to help people without the clout is not easy, it is true that finding good people are hard. The biggest lessons were from the business side, there is a lot of paperwork and hoops to jump thru to be your own boss and that is just starting out. Good thing the internet has good information and other business owners and friend groups you can ask questions about. The big thing is to ask or searching the right answers but if you keep trying you’ll find the answer you need. Offset Med is doing our best to support artists like athletes.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would first ask them what part of the city they are staying in, and anything they’ve seen. LA is so vast there’s something someone saw somewhere but they don’t realize it can be further than it looks. Places to eat/snack: Savoy, Big Softee, Rosecity Pizza, Milk + T, Donut Man, Blue Star Donuts, DK Donuts in Santa Monica, Pa Ord, Ave 26 Tacos, Leo’s Taco Truck, soo many choices on Sawtelle, Animal, Son of a Gun, Vinny’s, Beleaf Burgers, Seabirds Long Beach, Mariscos Jalisco’s Truck, Langers, AYCE Korean BBQ, Fosselman’s Ice Cream.. just a few. Also I would have to see if things are open.
Hangout: LA City Hall Observation Deck, Last Bookstore,Gand Central Market, Union Station, Olvera Street, Chinatown, Little Tokyo, Santee Alley, Melrose trading post, Angels Point, Sunset Junction, The Grove The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My family and friends for being my support system, I am blessed to have loving people that have pushed me beyond my diagnosis. The inclusion and acceptance to help me be my full potential. I don’t think I can name everyone but there’s a village behind me all the time. If you know me you have had an impact.
