We had the good fortune of connecting with Dwight Allen O’Neal and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dwight Allen, career-wise, where do you want to be in the end?
My ultimate career end goal is to become a multifaceted media mogul and influential personality, transcending labels and stereotypes. I aspire to emulate the impact of a figure like Oprah, with a diverse portfolio that includes producing compelling television and film projects, writing bestselling novels, and hosting a talk show. I aim to break barriers, showcasing authenticity and inclusivity in the entertainment industry.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My artistic journey is a testament to resilience and evolution. Hailing from Little Rock, Arkansas, spending two decades in NYC, and now calling Los Angeles home, each chapter has shaped my creativity. From overcoming challenges that led me from being fashionably homeless to pioneering YouTube content creation, including the first black gay web series, ‘Christopher Street The Series,’ my path has been far from easy.

Transitioning from a makeup artist to launching a thriving marketing and sales agency, ‘Rose Neal Consulting,’ focusing on BIPOC consumers, I’ve embraced transformation. What sets me apart is not just my diverse portfolio spanning television, film, and literature, but the ability to adapt and thrive in various creative realms. The journey has been tough, but it’s equipped me with invaluable lessons and a unique perspective.

I want the world to know that my brand and story embody resilience, authenticity, and breaking boundaries. I’ve learned that challenges are opportunities for growth, and my trajectory reflects the power of determination. From the streets of NYC to the forefront of creative innovation, my journey is a testament to the limitless possibilities when passion meets perseverance.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Alright, so imagine my bestie lands in LA, and I’m the go-to tour guide. Fresh to the city but not clueless about the hotspots – I’m that friendly gay neighbor who can share a cup of sugar and spill all the tea. Here’s the plan:

Day 1: We’d hit up The Grove because shopping and entertainment are always a good combo. Maybe snag a few things and catch a cool vibe.

Day 2: Let’s balance the city chaos with a nature fix—a hike at Runyon Canyon, because those Hollywood views are unmatched. LA’s got that perfect mix.

Day 3: Foodie adventure time! Republique is calling our name, and West Hollywood’s food scene is begging to be explored.

Day 4: Night out in downtown – gotta see what the city lights are all about. Maybe sneak a peek at Soho House, even if we can’t get in (wink, wink).

Day 5: Neighborhood hopping, from Silver Lake’s artsy vibes to wherever the day takes us. LA’s full of surprises.

Day 6: Iconic moments – Griffith Observatory for skyline views and a beach day because, well, it’s LA. Can’t miss that sun.

Day 7: Cultural fix with Hollywood Bowl or Getty Center – whichever feels right. Cap it off with a chill evening somewhere lowkey but cool.

In a nutshell, it’s the LA experience with a dash of glam, a sprinkle of adventure, and a whole lot of fun. Because, hey, that’s how we roll in the city of angels!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to dedicate my shoutout to two integral pillars in my journey—my mother and the Upward Bound Program at Philander Smith College. My mother, with her unwavering support, love, encouragement and prayers, has been my anchor, fueling my determination and belief in myself. The Upward Bound Program at Philander Smith College played a transformative role by providing me with crucial mentorship and opportunities, setting the foundation for my educational and personal growth. Both have been instrumental in shaping the person I am today and the success I’ve achieved.
