We had the good fortune of connecting with Dylan Huey and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Dylan, how does your business help the community?
At the heart of Reach lies a compelling story of transformation and empowerment. My personal journey in the social media landscape began with a challenging experience: I was bullied in person. Yet, rather than succumb to the negativity, I chose to harness the power of my social media to create something positive – a community grounded in empathy, acceptance, and support. This experience shaped my understanding of the profound impact that a supportive community can have, especially in an environment as volatile as social media.
When I entered USC, the importance of community was more evident to me than ever. I envisioned a space where individuals could not only feel safe but empowered to share their stories, their vulnerabilities, and their strengths. This vision led to the transformation of an already established social media club, Reach, a platform that transcends beyond just being a collegiate influencer organization. It’s a sanctuary for like-minded individuals to come together, driven by a shared mission of using their influence for societal good.
The foundational ethos of Reach is deeply rooted in the belief that social media, when used responsibly, can be a powerful tool for positive change. This is reflected in our approach to welcoming new members. The first question we pose to anyone interested in joining our USC chapter is, “What do you do beyond USC, beyond social media, to make a difference and an impact in your community?” This question is not just about gauging one’s accomplishments; it’s about understanding their commitment to leveraging their platform for the greater good.
At Reach, we foster a culture where members are encouraged to think critically about the content they produce and the messages they propagate. It’s not just about building a following; it’s about building a movement. A movement that champions kindness, inclusivity, and social responsibility. We provide a platform where members can collaborate, share ideas, and initiate projects that contribute meaningfully to their communities.
My own experiences with bullying and the subsequent journey as a content creator have been instrumental in shaping the values and vision of Reach. It’s a testament to the power of turning personal struggles into catalysts for community building and societal contribution. Through Reach, I aim to cultivate a generation of influencers who are not just popular figures online but are also champions of positive change in the real world. We are committed to creating a ripple effect of positivity, where the impact of our actions extends far beyond the digital realm, into the very heart of our communities.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
At just 21, I have become a successful content creator, musician, entrepreneur, host, speaker, innovator, and leader in the entertainment, social media, and technology industries. As a creator, I have garnered over 2 million cumulative followers on social media under my monicker and stage name, Rodin’ Flash. In addition, I have previously managed other creators with followings over 100M, including being creator Huddy’s first manager and leading his expansion from 200K – 5M followers in a year and a half. I have been a featured creator on TedX, Consumer Electronic Show, and Vidcon. Currently, I runs the first and only collegiate influencer organization, Reach, which was started at USC and now expanded to 55+ other universities, including UCLA, Penn State, and Duke.
