We had the good fortune of connecting with Dyve and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dyve, what role has risk played in your life or career?
That’s tough to answer. I believe there are two sides to risk taking. The actual risk taking that’s necessary for growth and then the feared socially created version. People view pursuit of a career in creative arts or anything of the sort as a, “risk”. The general population thinks it’s risky because it’s not the normal thing to do. They think starting your own business is risky, not doing what your told is risky, and believe that working for a comfortable job is security; or that’s at least what they are lead to believe. Let’s say you work for a big company, you’re making really good money, been there for 20 years; have the house that you’ve always wanted, have an amazing family, and there is nothing more that you want or need. However, because of budgeting in the company, they decide to cut your department and let you go. Now you have your house/car Mortgages, paying for your kids school and every other payment you never had to worry about before. How is that security? That sounds more risky to me. When you are working for someone else, there is no security. I’ve heard way too many stories like that from people I know getting laid off after years working for a company. When you put all your effort into building your business for yourself, you can’t lose. Sure you might fail a few times, but at least you’re the only one holding you back from success, no one else can take that away from you. Instead of putting 20 years into a company that may or may not care about you, put that 20 years into what you want to do and see how far you can go.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’ve been making music for about 7 years now. The first 5 or 6 years were pretty rough trying to get my music off the ground. I even lived in my car for 3 months, completely broke, trying to attempt a tour to grow my name. I’m not saying the entire journey was that tough though, we had very successful moments along the way. From selling out shows, performing with artists like the Ying Yang Twins, and meeting some of my closest friends throughout the journey. If every day you wake up and take one small step towards your goal, you’re gonna end up being there a lot sooner than you think. I’m so excited to be releasing new music this year. My first big single on July 14TH, “Next” followed by an album called, “Milestones”. These will be the first big releases I’ve ever put out. My style touches many different genres and I just love creating. I don’t have a particular genre and I think I stand out through my versatility. I hope to create several albums in the future of completely different genres.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Hands down, best spot in LA for food/drink/atmosphere/margaritas – is Casablanca in Venice. They have a lady who hand makes tortillas on a brick fire stove… It’s one of the greatest things. I take everyone who is worthy enough to go there.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
A huge shoutout, someone who jump started my career and put me in the spotlight of the music industry is Dwayne Johnson. His belief in my music not only reassured me that I’m doing what I need to be doing, but he allowed me to be at the point in my career that I am right now and I’m forever grateful for that opportunity, especially with all the new music we have coming up.
