We had the good fortune of connecting with Edith Simone Morales Sen and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Edith Simone, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
I think taking risks separates you from people who are not successful – that goes for any type of success: love, friendships and especially careers. But the risk-taking that I am talking about, is being clear of how to go about things, rather than going for blood without knowing WHY you do it. Being clear about “what do I gain from taking that risk?” and/or “what could/will I loose or be compromised with, by following that path and deciding If I want to take the risk of a possible success and/or loss? Would you really loose anything?” The self-awareness that I bring into clarity allows me to see it as a win-win situation. It pushes and motivates me. It is a reassurance of my effort, that I’ve tried and learned something – so moving forward, I am only gaining more experience (FOR LIFE) in guiding myself and other people.
In regards to my career as a dancer, I would say I have been taking a number of risks. For example, booking (out-of-pocket) airbnbs, and roundtrip flights just to fly out to an audition – only for the possibility to either get cut in the first round or book the job. I have done so numerous times, and sometimes it doesn’t go “as planned” (Tip: Trust yourself, allow zero expectations and you won’t be disappointed). If it didn’t work I just tried again the following year, until I booked my first International live stage performance (at the MTV EMAS) with Jason Derulo ft. Nicki Minaj, because I took the risk.
The decision to move overseas, from my beloved home, Vienna, Austria, to not seeing my family and friends; the possibility of struggle and defeat, and not knowing whether I would make any money at all, to only TRY and FOLLOW WHAT MY HEART DESIRES??? Heck yeah I took that risk, because I could not live with asking myself all the WHAT IFS?! And no matter the outcome, the things you do and learn, in addition to the people you meet along the journey, are already of significance that I call priceless!
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am a professional dancer and choreographer, with an extensive training and background in Ballet and Jazz. Over the years, I have learned the craft of/added styles like Hip-hop, Commercial, Heels, Contemporary, and Afro to my repertoire. You may have seen me in commercials for clients such as: Google, Target, Samsung, on-stage performing with artists like: Dua Lipa, Jason Derulo, Kid Cudi and many more. Also, I am currently looking forward to multiple confirmed jobs (due to my professionalism, work ethic and my exceptional performance quality) starting 2023 in Los Angeles with “Stimpy Productions” including music videos for Ashe, Finneas and Panic! At The Disco, to name a few.
What sets me apart from others is not only my heartfelt and joyous self, but most importantly, my humble and authentic being; which translates in the form of energy & presence through my movement and art.
I got to where I am today through my passion, strong will-power and problem-solving mentality. If I want to achieve something, I know what to do to get there. And if I don’t, I just research and connect with people who have experienced/been where I want to go. It is easy to loose faith, but giving up, is and never was an option for me because I still know where I am headed. What I realized is that, it is also okay to NOT KNOW what you are doing; or to feel unhappy with what you are doing. Sit-in and feel those feelings, and see what variable you can change to get back on track. It is also okay to realize that the road/path/journey you are on doesn’t align or make sense with you anymore. If that’s what your heart tells you, follow it! Make sure you don’t change course out of fear, or ego driven, and falsely programmed insecurities that you project onto yourself. You keep going. I know it can be hard, but keep going! You can be proud of how far you’ve come, and you will be even prouder of yourself in the end!
These are also words that I must remind myself of from time to time. Sometimes we simply have to hear certain things over and over again until we fully understand and believe it, but until then, TRYING is already enough!
Since I am making my own experiences, I can share the good, and the not so good about a working dancer from Europe, making her dreams come true across the globe. When I teach dance classes, I want to share not only steps, but also the essence of it! Educating, but also motivating and being a guiding light for the ones who need one!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Favorite Spots?! … THE BEACH!!! There is for sure no beach where I am from haha.
Specifically all Malibu beaches for example El Matador State Beach are my favorites!
The Observatory is such a magical place I love it, there is also a hiking route where I saw a mama deer and baby deer aww.
A hike at Topanga is great and then finishing it up at Cafe on 27 you feel like you are still on a hike but with food due to the beautiful scenery!

My last recommendation is definitely not in the city but a must-see Sequoia National Park wow magical!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Thank you to my Mom Elfriede who as a single mother always made sure I can take my dance classes 3 times a week next to paying for everything else and just making my child hood great and for her continuous support! Thanks to all my close friends who just support me at my highest lowest and all the in-betweens you know who you are!
Thanks to my best friend Aurora who is just the brightest light in the world and thanks to my boyfriend Derek for the continuous support kindness and heartfelt energies.
Thanks to my Dad.
& Last but not least thanks to Gabriela for nominating me to share my story.
