We had the good fortune of connecting with EJ Sharpe and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi EJ, what role has risk played in your life or career?
I am currently about to take the biggest risk of my life and move to Los Angeles in three weeks. I’ve kinda always been a risk taker, whether it be moving from country to country when I was younger, or my parents encouraging me to pursue my dreams. I don’t think you get anywhere without sacrifice, and with sacrifice of course, comes risk. Having been away at college from my family the last 4 years, I felt like I had to sacrifice a lot when it came to missing home and having to build a new life. But the risk and sacrifice made the rewards in my life that much greater, and that’s how I’m choosing to go into this new chapter of life. I want to be the kind of artist that takes risks, because ultimately, those are the ones that stand out.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My decision to move to Los Angeles may seem spontaneous, and in many ways it is, but it’s also a step I’m taking to further my artistry and career. The last year hasn’t really been the easiest; I suffer from a chronic illness called Endometriosis and it became quite bad last year, landing me in hospital multiple times. Throughout those 7 months I really questioned whether I could pursue music full-time, or if I would have to “settle” doing something else. I kinda lost my love for music a little bit there. Then I started writing by myself, with my partner Emanuel, and others – and the words just started flowing. There’s still a lot I have to process about the last year, but I’ve written the music I am most proud of, and I am so excited to release it in the coming months.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
This one is super exciting because I’ve visited LA but there’s still so many places I wanna go once I move! First of all, I’ve never hiked to the Griffith Observatory so that’s a MUST as soon as I land – but I think LA has some beautiful beaches – and being from Australia, I can’t wait to spend my days by the beach and relaxing in Malibu! Another part of the city I love is the late night food stalls, my favorite being Pablito’s Tacos which I personally cannot wait to devour again!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Because I’m missing them like crazy right now, I have to give the shoutout to my incredible parents. Their unwavering support and dedication is something that inspires me to push forward in my artistry and work hard so that I can hopefully take care of them one day like they have with me. They sacrificed a lot in life, whether it be moving across continents, sending me away to school, or deciding to be there for me in the toughest times – and I think that’s ultimately why I am so proud that they’re my parents. They are a unit as solid as a rock and I cannot thank them enough for their encouragement as I’m stepping into the next phase of my life and artistry!
