We had the good fortune of connecting with Elijah Washington and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Elijah, how do you think about risk?
My faith has allowed me to take risks. There most certainly have been difficult days, days when uncertainty creeps in, making me question if I am on the right path. However, I have gotten to a place in life where I have begun to be comfortable being uncomfortable. I choose to trust God in everything I do. Faith is what keeps me going everyday!

Oftentimes, people allow the fear of taking risks to interfere with what God truly has in store for them. Fear is completely normal, the question is, how do we choose to deal with our fear? I am accepting the fact that God will never give me more than I can handle. I trust that everything that is meant for me will be for me.

I am a firm believer in the saying, “faith without works is dead”. Faith is a beautiful thing to have, but are we willing to put our faith to the test and take the necessary risks to pursue our dreams? Moving to LA was a huge risk for me. A life in the arts is a huge risk. Choosing to go against the grain of a 9-5 traditional career path and believing I can successfully make a career for myself is audacious. As long as I believe in myself and see a successful career unfolding, I believe it will happen through prayer, hard work and dedication.

It has been an amazing, rewarding journey for me thus far. I am beyond grateful to continue creating traction for myself in this town and not allowing others to put limitations on me. Without taking risks, I would have never created my production company, signed with a talent agent, booked a guest star role on a Daytime Emmy Nominated Show, nor would I have been able to create music for BET.

My mantra is to do the work and trust the process!

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am an artist in the fullest sense. I am a singer/actor/producer/writer. As a creative I believe it is my responsibility to illuminate stories that are often overlooked, through music, tv & film.

During the pandemic I was fortunate to create my production company, Fire Rock Productions. The goal is to evoke conversation, and begin to humanize and empathize with people that may or may not be foreign to us. I aspire to create an opportunity for the audience to self reflect and find truth in every story being told by my production company. This may indeed cause people to confront pain and unresolved issues in their life. I believe this to be vital because it has the ability to unify people from all walks of life and allow us to see each other’s humanity whether we agree with them or not.

For me, I believe what may set me apart from others is knowing and understanding my purpose, which is governed by my faith in God. By no means has this journey been easy, but I believe that’s what makes it so rewarding. Being able to see the fruits of your labor and your creative vision come to life is so fulfilling. During this process I was able to create my first short film under Fire Rock Productions, which includes an amazing cast of Hollywood Actors working as series regulars, guest stars & leads in major Hollywood productions. We also will be featuring a plethora of music under the company.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Hmmm… Well honestly I guess it depends on the friend. But I would definitely hit a hiking trail, because you can’t come to LA and not go hiking… that’s like the most LA thing to do in my opinion haha everyone out here is always hiking. After hiking we would make our way down to Malibu and enjoy the mountains and the beach. Malibu is so scenic and coming to LA without going to Malibu is a huge NO!!!!

You can probably tell that I love nature. It allows me to sit back, unplug, recharge & enjoy God’s beautiful creation.

I would also have to take them to Venice/Santa Monica to ride bikes along the beach, because who doesn’t like bike riding. Then there’s this great horseback riding trail I’d definitely have to take them to.

If there was a concert going on, I would for sure take them to the Hollywood Bowl to experience that as well!

I haven’t even gotten to food spots yet haha! There’s this really dope Vegan restaurant/wine bar by my place and no I’m not a vegan but I do thoroughly enjoy vegan food. Of course we’d have to get some soul food and hit up a brunch spot too!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Honestly, I have been so fortunate to have an amazing village that has supported my endeavors in this entertainment industry. I would not be here if it had not been for my parents,. I am forever grateful for all the wisdom my parents have instilled in me and continue to instill in me. They were intentional about placing people in both me and my siblings lives that would be able to assist us and help guide us in whatever our interests were.

My mother though deserves my shoutout because both her and my father invested so much time into raising my siblings and I and now she has the opportunity to do what she is truly passionate about. My mother recently created her own cooking show, “Cooking in the Kitchen With Bree”. Seeing her do what she is passionate about at this stage of life is beyond inspiring to me and deserves a shoutout.
