We had the good fortune of connecting with Ellie Pritts and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ellie, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
I feel like a true culmination of factors contributed to my success and the success of my businesses. I can’t discount how much of a factor luck has been, but by far the most important factor has been sheer determination. When I set my mind to something I have to see it through, anything else isn’t really an option. And I’ve had this mindset since I can remember, so it’s not even something I cultivated. Hence the luck!
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am most excited simply to create art. I try not to think too much about what sets me apart from others. I’m usually proud of the things I create for a little while, and then eventually I’ll look back and see how far I’ve come and it can be hard to not focus on the mistakes I may have made. It was not easy getting to the place I am today, I have overcome a lot both professionally and personally to get here. The negative times in my life are what keep me hyper focused and motivated to succeed, though. So I am grateful that I had that willpower to push through it all end up better on the other side. I try not to let my experiences, good or bad, define me. I think the biggest lesson I’ve learned so far as a creative is to not get too hung up on other people’s perceptions of me, of what I do and who I am. The less attached I am to other people’s opinion, the better the art I create is. Feeling free to take risks is key!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
In the before times, I would be taking them to Point Dume in the morning, a visit to the Museum Of Jurassic Technology in the afternoon and a night cap at Tonga Hut!
