We had the good fortune of connecting with Elyse Jewel and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Elyse, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I have always been drawn to music and somehow knew that this was the path I wanted to follow. Growing up, my dad had introduced me to musical theater and artists such as Eric Clapton and The Beatles. Along the way, I found Taylor Swift and Julia Micheals, two very strong female artists that I aspire to be like. Music has allowed me to express any unsaid thoughts and feelings, becoming very therapeutic. I’ve had such a passion for music and truly cannot envision myself pursuing any other career.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Being a teen artist, obviously, I have many things going on besides music. I take the time to connect with my fans, while also maintain being a normal teenager, which allows people the opportunity to join me on this journey.
I’ve been able to experiment with a lot of different sounds and influences to find what is authentic to me. I’ve grown up listening to tons of different genres throughout my life. So within my own music, I’ve been able to share what’s true to me.
Its taken a lot of growth, and growing up. I had to mature a lot quicker because its hard to be a kid in the music industry. I’ve really had to dig down deep into myself in order to express my artistry. Which is hard considering mental health, juggling school, and also having a personal life. Its definitely been hard to get to where I am at today, but I don’t regret any of it.
Having confidence helps so much – it’s crazy! Just being able to trust yourself in any decision is so meaningful and vital. I think just being able to feel sure of yourself is a great feeling – which is something else I’ve learned, as well as how to speak up for myself, how to make decisions for myself without letting others speak for me, and how to be leader.
I want people to know that they’re never alone in what they’re going through. There is always someone you can talk to. I hope my music can help potentially brighten their day and allow them to feel more connected to someone outside of themselves.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I really love Power of Intuition, so definitely go crystal shopping! We’d have to go thrifting because LA has such great thrift shops. And really, just walk the city, outside of the touristy areas, because I love the energy and movement of the city. I’d love to finish the day at a small cafe eating and talking together.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My mom has been the biggest support throughout my life and career. She has been next to me every step of the way and has been an amazing role model. She also takes the time to ask what’s going on with me throughout the day and helps me plan out upcoming projects. She deserves so much recognition and I’m dedicating this shoutout to her!
