We had the good fortune of connecting with Embry Munsey and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Embry, what are you inspired by?

Our four kids are our constant inspiration. Not only do they have so much pride around our business themselves, but they remind us to stay resilient, confident, grateful, and not be so serious that we forget to have fun along the way!

We’re also inspired by the success of people that seem to work really hard and keep going even when things don’t come easy. It’s one thing to do well when you start with a lot of resources, it’s a whole other journey to work tirelessly for every dollar and make the decision every day to keep going even when faced with major roadblocks or even failure.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?

While there are plenty of coffee businesses around the globe – and growing- we want to be known for an undeniable sense of community and a friendly welcome. We see our coffee as the tool to draw people together, to slow down long enough to share in story with others.

We are all human, and we as much as the next person have faced not only bad days, but tragedy and loss. It is not about pretending to be happy, but doing business in a way that really says “I know you’ve got a story and I’m going to create an atmosphere that holds space for that story as best as I can”. Really being gracious and gentle with people in a way that’s out of a genuine love and care for humanity. At the end of the day we all want to be seen and heard, and we believe we’re creating a brand that invites people to feel safe and find connection.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?

If you find yourself in Laguna Beach, we’d obviously recommend starting your day with us! We’ve created a great vibe to hang and enjoy your coffee, but once you’re on the go you must walk along Heisler Park just behind us! Heisler holds many community events throughout the year, but even when there’s nothing going on there, there’s so much to take in.

Let’s talk food! Our favorite burrito in town is the veggie breakfast burrito from La Sirena from there go for walk around the library fairy garden and hit the shops on Forest Ave. Hobie is a family favorite for clothing and gifts, and Gina’s Pizza is our longest running family go-to! Some other favorite eateries are Lost Pier at Aliso Beach, Beachcomber at Crystal Cove and the fresh & ready meals at Mercado Laguna.

No matter the time of year, Laguna offers a variety of Art Festivals and experiences like Sawdust and Pageant of the Masters. For sunset, head back to Heisler or Crescent Bay if you prefer to have your toes in the sand.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Not to be basic, but it’s our kids hands down! After putting the coffee dream on the back burner for a handful of years, we started back up when they were 9, 3 and 1. Not only was it quite the test for us to start a business with three kids in tow, but they have really given us lots of grace as parents and have even pitched in with the business over the years.

We love you Zealan, Gideon, and Liberty!
