We had the good fortune of connecting with Emily Isacksen and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Emily, what habits do you feel helped you succeed?
The habits that have helped me succeed the most are mindful meditation, daily fitness, and self-care rituals. I feel my best and deliver better work when I nurture my mind, body, and soul.

Mindful meditation has helped me practice patience and control my thinking by turning negative thoughts into positive ones. Sitting still for 10 minutes a day allows me to stay in the present moment and focus on my goals. It’s easy to get overwhelmed by everything you have to do, but the mental clarity keeps me organized and helps prioritize my to-do list.

Daily fitness makes me disciplined. I’ve worked from home for the past 3 years, so I like to plan my days around a workout class. I do everything from hot yoga, to Pilates, and spin. During that hour, I am able to release my stress and push myself to my full potential. I also love going on long walks in nature to brainstorm future features and come up with out-of-the-box ideas. The expansive sky lets my imagination free and makes me believe in the unlimited possibilities in this world.

Self-care rituals fill my cup of love. I get 8-hours of sleep a night, live for a hot shower, and smell-good beauty products. I like to start my day with a lavish skincare routine followed by a dark roast coffee on the porch. It’s the simple things in life that I value the most. These daily habits drive me to be the best version of myself and a better boss to my team.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I may not be a stylist, but I am an innovator. And about five years ago I realized that I had a problem: I had a closet full of clothes, and no idea how to wear them.

I was a twenty-something between jobs who had been everything from a tech start-up assistant to a game-show prize-buyer. As I prepared for yet another interview, I found myself sitting in my closet staring at a menagerie of clothes that fit the girl that I used to be, not the woman I had become. I knew how I wanted to look but I didn’t know how to get there. Then it hit me: If I was feeling this way, there must be others in the same position. That’s when the idea was born.

In my life, style has been the backdrop of some of the most pivotal moments. How we dress tells people how to treat us and inspires confidence– even when we might not have it. With the help of two female angel investors, years of hard work, and immense personal growth, I brought that vision to life not only for me but for all the men and women out there who want to unleash their full potential. At dressCODE, our mission is to empower people to live the life of their dreams, one outfit at a time. It’s worked for me and I know it will work for you.

I created a concept based on an experience I was craving as a consumer. It was a long, windy road to get where I am today and I’ve overcome many obstacles along the way but I am proud of the fact that I never gave up on my dream and was fearless in the pursuit of what sets my soul on fire. I’ve learned to trust the timing of the universe and that every delay is actually a part of the plan. I’m excited to announce that after my 3rd attempt to launch, dressCODE is now available in the App Store and ready to service clients anywhere in the country.

Whether you’re looking to boost your confidence with your clothes, step up your work from home style, or cleanse the clutter from your closet- your stylist will help you meet and undoubtedly exceed your goals. We all deserve to look and feel our best, and dressCODE can help you get there!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend was visiting Los Angeles for a long weekend, I would take them to my favorite secluded beach in Malibu and stop at Erewhon to grab the essentials for a perfect picnic that includes salmon banh mi wraps, pita chips with Bitchin’ dip, and a 4-pack of Yes Way Rose – the most popular French canned wine in the US! After a day in the sun, I would take them back to my house for a girl’s night in complete with a hot shower and mud mask. The next day, I’d suggest we rent bikes in Manhattan Beach for a long ride along the strand followed by happy hour watching the sunset at a cute place by the pier. On our last day, I’d take them to Alfred’s coffee for a cold brew and breakfast pastry. Then, we’d go on a scenic house tour of all the best pockets to live in town and pick out our dream homes on our way to hike to the top of Los Liones. I can’t think of anything better than 8 miles of heart-to-heart conversations while gazing at the panoramic ocean view. I’d want to show them all of the reasons I fell in love with this city and why I’ll never, ever leave! The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’ve sacrificed a lot and risked everything to get where I am today and wouldn’t be here without the loyal support of my product manager, Daniel Gopen, who has been by my side since day one. We met while working at an on-demand mental health startup, which ended up going under less than a year later and put us back on the job market. He was the first call I made after I courageously convinced an angel to invest in my vision and believe in the potential of my business. He helped me create a project plan, build a product roadmap, interview development companies, and turn an idea that lived in my head into a fully functional app that is now LIVE in the App Store! Daniel deserves all the recognition in the world!
