We had the good fortune of connecting with Emmanuel Guillermo and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Emmanuel, what do you want your legacy to be?
Ideally, I would like to inspire people first and foremost with the creation of my brand. I would like to one day build a company that may inspire others to start their own journey. If I could consistently remind people of one thing with my brand it would be this: That no matter how bad things may seem, and no matter how bad the cards you were dealt with may seem to you, if you keep your head down and work hard and never stop believing in yourself relentlessly you can make something extraordinary happen. I’m not quite there yet, but I firmly believe I can one day leave such a legacy that may act as a beacon of hope for those who are lost.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
One of the biggest drivers that fuels the inspiration behind my art are films. I grew up watching movies my entire life and they have always served as my go-to escape from society as a socially awkward introvert, naturally. Movies (which are really just our modern way of story telling) breath life into my work and I’m proud to have some of my favorite films serve as a driving force behind my art. Unfortunately, my business and the overall aesthetic of my portfolio is still nowhere near where I want it to be, but that’s totally okay and I take full responsibility and ownership for where I’m currently at today. I firmly believe that one day if I continue working hard and continue believing I can possibly build something that might be considered “World Class” by society. The journey so far has taught me that nothing in life is handed to you. There’s a few that know the “right” people but you can’t count on that to make your dreams a reality. If you want something bad enough it’s up to you and only you to find a way to make it happen, but I feel that will make it infinitely more rewarding in the end anyways. Until then, I’m still in love with the journey.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I don’t like people! It’s safer alone and indoors! Okay, I’m kidding, but if I’m being honest I’m very easily drained by social stimuli therefore I don’t go out much, but when I do I like to head to the beaches by the Malibu area, maybe with some herb and bourbon liquor (like the song 7 years by Lukas Graham). Just a nice environment and people that I trust with good energy around me is all I need. I’m very naturally drawn to breathtaking environments; sometimes I’ll even drive 20-30 minutes just to jog through a fancy Pasadena neighborhood with beautiful houses(Hillside Terrace I’m looking at you). My father grew up in a very poor village in southern Mexico and I’ve been there enough times to learn to appreciate wealthy environments. I hope to belong in one of those fancy neighborhoods one day. The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
To be fair, there’s a lot of folks who have inspired me throughout my journey so far, but there’s a few that really stand out to me that I feel really deserve a shout out. There was a very ambitious and successful investor that had reached out to me a few months ago regarding my work. His name is Manny Fernandez (who is absolutely crushing it right now on social media.) Manny encouraged me to continue pursuing my dreams and reminded me that the only person that can make it happen is myself by taking massive action. There is another gal named Brittany that is also incredibly supportive and another gal who I had photographed back in April of last year that really brings out my confidence. The biggest takeaway I get from these individuals (and others I have not mentioned) is that no matter how lonely you might become, we still need people around us for support. Your environment will make or break you, so choose wisely who you let into your life.
