We had the good fortune of connecting with Ericka Sance and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ericka, alright, let’s jump in with a deep one – what’s you’re definition for success?
Success is when you attain a perfect balance between the material & spiritual. Whatever that means in the daily tasks of life. Success is having true love, friendship, health and a safe environment to be expressive of our thoughts and feelings. It is something that most people associate with work & accomplishments. But I have always felt that it’s also about emotional achievement. Something that fulfills my whole being. Not just something material but also spiritual.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My art is my music. The songs that I write. I paint around with watercolors, but I feel like making sound art is what I do best. I painted two magnolias recently because I needed art for my single release on bandcamp. I do sell art but it’s very unofficial. However, the two magnolia watercolors are up for sale at The Art Of Tea in Manchester, England. I don’t know if anyone will ever buy them. But there they are! up on the wall for sale if anyone is interested. I’m more excited about making more music and putting out my first EP into The World! I’ve worked delligently on each and every sound. This EP has had so much support from incredible artists & musicians that I verily adore and admire. But it has not all been easy. There has been some challenges along the making of this EP. First, with the LA fires, the studio where I was recording had to be evacuated. Then the pandemic started, so we had to go on national lockdown and isolation. It felt like I would never be able to finish recording. But I am happy to say that it is done! Mission Accomplished. Now it’s all about waiting for its release. I’ve definitely learned to be patient during the recording process. Patience is everything. Now I want the world to heal. I want to restore faith in magic and infinite possibilities. I want people to remember true love. I want the world to know that there are still starving children some parts of the world & other children are still in cages. And that is evil and needs to end soon.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
The beach! There are so many cool sea caves and hiking spots. Surfing early mornings in the summer is so nice. Get yourself a surfboard and Stay away from sharks!
Eat tacos at the local taco truck. There are vegan & vegetarian taco trucks too. Street food is always fun.
There is so much to do! You just have to follow the white rabbit.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There are so many people that I can honestly name for providing me their constant love and support throughout the years. I love my friends & family for always allowing me to do whatever it is that I feel. Having grown up in a coffee farm with my family in a small volcanic town in Guatemala has a huge influence on the morals and values that I honor everyday. All of my friends that I grew up & went to school with in LA. My boyfriend Michael has been my loving partner and only best friend. I am truly the luckiest lady for having his constant love and support. He is so brilliant and inspiring in everything he does. All of the friends that I’ve met when I first started playing music. I remember when we all started our first bands. Playing at the local coffee shops & making art everywhere we went. We are all a big musical family. Now with this pandemic we haven’t seen each other in so long or as much as we used to. It’s been very difficult for all of us. Because indie-bands rely so much on local businesses and the local community. We build the community together with music and art shows. Playing gigs, meeting new people in the community, talking about social and environmental issues. But with all the restrictions and lockdowns, it’s been very hard to stay in touch with everything. Social media has its pros and cons. Community is everything! Especially in times like this.
