We had the good fortune of connecting with Erinn Williams and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Erinn, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
When I discovered/ became a raw foodist over 15 years ago, a light bulb came on and I wanted to share what I had learned! I decided to share with others this very simple but overlooked truth of eating as nature intended, by starting a vegan raw foods business. I belive we don’t need, and are actually made sick from the processed/ preservative full “foods” that are accepted in the marketplace. And if we just simply cut out all preservatives and processed foods we can live more healthy lives and feel better! Cooking foods also diminishes 70% + of the vitamins and minerals, and removes its natural enzymes, which depletes your own enzymes that can be better used to clean your skin and organs. Nature provides foods in their raw state, and they are healthiest to consume that way. Carnivors hunt and eat meat raw, and herbivores eat their plants raw. I have been vegan for over 20 years and believe that we do not need meat to survive and thrive. The suffering we cause to animals through factory farming is unacceptable and avoidable. I believe eating a raw, vegan diet is healthy for us, animals and the planet and I started a raw vegan food company to help provide healthy, yummy energizing pure food to everyone!
What should our readers know about your business?
My business was created from my passion for raw vegan foods alone. I never saw myself as starting a food company as I was mostly focused on a career as a singer/songwriter/ opera singer/ touring artist. I created one product/ put up a website, opened a store, then went on tour. Came back and opened another store, and so on… I was not familiar with the food industry at all but a lot of research and trial and error led me on my path. I did every job myself then slowly passed off each step. Now Rawkin Raw has major distribution and is carried in over 300 stores across the US!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I live in and love Venice beach. I would take them out to live music even if it was a street performance in these strange times. I would take them for bike rides, ocean swimming, dive bars, local restaurants, spas and shops. To the Getty museum, up the coast to Malibu and to Hollywood to see the sites.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
A book called: Diet for a new America by John Robbins started me on my journey to veganism! And so many other people, music, books, etc along the way!
