We had the good fortune of connecting with Erris Purnell and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Erris, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I knew I had to pursue a creative career because art always found a way into my life. I had the typical 9-5 jobs but my creative nature would make me stand out. I’ll never forget working for a company who asked me to Face Paint at an internal event. Six months later I was laid-off. I took that opportunity to start my own creative business.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
The best part about being a Face and Body Painter is the transformation. When a client tells you how they want to look or the character they would like to be, it’s now my job to create that experience. I get to also infuse my art with positive energy, making sure that client physically feels better after their session. As a Reiki Master as well, energy thru my Body Art is very important. Once I’m done and they see themselves, that mirror moment is priceless.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If someone was visiting I’d definitely take them around to various Selfie Museums. Everyone likes to feel special and what’s more LA than having a photo shoot centered around you. The different Selfie spots give an unique photo experience hard to find anywhere else.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I have to shout out my Mom for always buying me new crayons, markers and art supplies in general. Her support is irreplaceable.
