Meet Evie P. Jeang | Founder, Entrepreneur, Mother

We had the good fortune of connecting with Evie P. Jeang and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Evie P., can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
My previous venture, Surrogacy Concierge, specialized in guiding intended parents through every stage of their fertility journey. This comprehensive service involved tasks such as donor matching, agency agreement reviews, surrogate screening, the drafting of gestational carrier agreements, establishing parent-child relationships, and overseeing hospital deliveries. Acting as agents for the intended parents, Surrogacy Concierge served as the crucial liaison between them, and all other entities involved in the surrogacy process.
The experience gained from founding Surrogacy Concierge has paved the way for my next endeavor—Hera. The inspiration for embarking on this entrepreneurial journey stems from my personal experience, as my son Evan, was born through a surrogate. I went to an agency and the entire process was challenging, and financially expensive. My journey has driven me to establish Hera, a venture that aims to revolutionize, simplify, and create an affordable process while welcoming individuals from all walks of life, backgrounds, and orientations. We proudly stand as an LGBTQ+-friendly space, championing love in all its forms and the power of choice when it comes to building diverse and loving families.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I am thrilled to share details about my upcoming app, Hera! Hera is a revolutionary app designed to assist individuals on their fertility journey by seamlessly connecting them with egg donors, sperm donors, surrogates, and intended parents. My motivation behind creating Hera stems from a personal connection, as mentioned earlier, my son, Evan, was born through a surrogate. Reflecting on my own experiences, Hera is crafted to bring transparency, affordability, and a personal touch to the often-complex fertility process.
The path leading to Hera has been far from easy, filled with its own set of challenges. Negotiating a landscape dominated by men in the industry poses difficulties for women, making it tough to navigate aspects such as networking, fundraising, pitching, and marketing. Nevertheless, I’ve embraced these challenges, understanding that setbacks are inevitable. Along the way, I’ve gathered invaluable tips and lessons—building strong networks, seeking mentorship for guidance and support, learning from setbacks, and staying unwaveringly focused on my goals.
I’d like the world to know that at Hera, we’re all about making the journey to parenthood special. We value inclusivity, trust, and aim to reshape how families come together, by breaking away from the social norms of traditional family-building. We are set to launch early next year, so stay tuned!
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’m a nature enthusiast! Despite spending most of my time working in the city, my favorite time with friends is always within the beauty of nature. Whenever my friends come to visit, I like to take them on getaways like Joshua Tree and Palm Springs, where we can truly enjoy each other’s company while relaxing in the peace and quiet. If I do take them out around the city, I enjoy Manhattan Beach. I like taking my friends for a walk along the beach and stopping by Esperanza Cocina de la Playa, where they serve the best margaritas, to enjoy the sunset.
Additionally, I find Napa Valley a delightful little town. The unique charm of Napa, combined with its delicious wine, paired with its culinary scene—where a visit to the French Laundry is a must for me—never ceases to create a lasting impression on both myself and my guests.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My dear friend, Elaine, has truly been a life-changing presence. I will forever hold gratitude in my heart for the profound impact she had on my life. Fresh out of law school, Elaine encouraged me to freeze my eggs, a decision that altered the course of my life most beautifully. At that time, my focus was on advancing my legal career, and the thought of having children was distant. However, I decided to take her advice and I froze my eggs.
Little did I know that this decision would prove to be crucial, as a few years later, I discovered a tumor in my uterus. Without Elaine’s wisdom, I might have missed the opportunity to experience the joys of motherhood. My son, Evan, is a testament to the incredible foresight and care Elaine showed me. He is not only remarkably intelligent, funny, and even has a little sassy side to him, but has brought into my life a love so unconditional that only a parent can understand.
Sadly, Elaine is no longer with us, having passed away a few years ago. However, I make it a point to consistently share with my son the significance she holds in my life.
