We had the good fortune of connecting with Fallon Turner and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Fallon, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
My grandfather was the cook or chef in our family and I loved his food and wanted to learn to cook. After I had found my passion in cooking I was attending a culinary program and they asked me what was my goal after the program ended and I had not given it much thought. So during the last weeks we had to intern in a restaurant with an opportunity to be hired and I saw that I did not want to work for anyone especially in that setting so I matched with a company that did catering and I fell in love with the work. Fast forward my grandfather had passed and I decided I started my catering company and in honor of him name it Poppy- Poppy’s catering was born.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I am very humble about my work, honestly if I could do it for free I would, and I am, I’ll be coordinating to feed the homeless this summer. My brand sets me apart because I go above and beyond treating and cooking for each client with love. It was not easy starting over going back to a 9-5 with a toddler to then go back to school and quitting my job to work for myself full time but I was able to overcome that because I have had tremendous support From my tribe, from them booking me personally to speaking my name in rooms I was not in to investing into my brand. My followers follow led me from Bodybyfal the bodybuilder fitness trainer to Fallon Louise personal chef and I am grateful the took the journey with me please it kept me accountable
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Wow to be a la native I don’t really know la. I am a very chill person and prefer outdoor activities, I would suggest we hit the beaches like Newport, Zuma or head all the way to laguna. I do enjoy downtown rooftop eating, The rooftop at wayfair hotel is really good. I am a wing and burger kind of girl so I’d hit wing world and then a drive in, for a bomb taste like mama made it burger would be Phat Daddy’s on 48th and Vernon. For my friends that enjoy waking early and getting out a hike at Fremont in noho or Eaton canyon falls probably grab coffee and breakfast at this cute blackowne coffee cafe called hilltop coffee and kitchen.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I dedicate a lot of my success to my MIMI Maria Franks, she is my angel on earth and biggest supporter she pushed me to enter the program and even entered the culinary program with me, she pushed me to start my business has worked with lemon events some days unpaid she has babysat my son so I could take on more jobs and go to school, she’s funded a lot of my business. As a group I have to thank my tribe, the girls I do life with Artheena and Myriahna and my friends and family that help me network and provide me space to show off my passion.
