Meet Farah Ghatala: Jewelry Designer and Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Farah Ghatala and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Farah, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I am a natural creator. No one taught me how to be artistic. I was born an artist. Therefore, it felt very natural for me to pursue a career in the arts from the start. I knew I could not be a doctor or a lawyer, I don’t think like them, and they can’t think like me.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Developing my career was not easy. I faced many challenges, and the only reason I overcame them was because I believed in myself regardless of how many people doubted me. I am so proud of how far I have come, and it is delightful to see other people wearing my creations. It makes me happy to see other talented artists wear my work and enjoy it so much. The lesson I have learned is not to give up no matter what. Stay focused, and things will happen eventually. My brand is unique. It’s all handmade artisan jewelry, so there is nothing like it on the market. Every piece is crafted to tell a story about humanity. I like to look at the jewelry of different cultures and combine it into one piece.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
First and foremost, I would recommend anyone coming here to go to The Cliff in Laguna Beach. The food is okay, to be honest, but the view is what really seals the deal. It’s beautiful, and the experience it gives is worth the price. As for places, I would take visitors to a beach, a hike, or maybe the sand dunes. I am so grateful to live in California, where I have access to so many different environments. There is no other place in the world with such diversity in landscapes.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I didn’t have a mentor to lean on. I come from a culture where people don’t support or value the arts. So from the start, I had to look at other artistic, creative people for support and guidance. Steve Jobs was one such person as he was someone who followed his heart and never gave up when faced with adversity. Other artists I looked up to were: Leonardo Da Vinci, Vincent Van Gogh, Picasso, and Sadequian. These were my mentors growing up. I dedicate my shoutout to all the brilliant people who spent their lives cultivating the arts.
