We had the good fortune of connecting with Fatima M Ali and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Fatima, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
In my case , I didn’t wake up one day and said I’m going to become an artist , it came naturally, back when I was in second grade , I had a special connection to cursive writing and loved holding a pen , writing on paper even when I didn’t have any homework. Later on , in 2008 I bought my first gouache paint set and started painting , merging both calligraphy with color , exploring with different materials, paints and surfaces.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’m American Lebanese , self taught painter since 2008 , so I’m always inspired by color , beautiful scenery and historical sites whether it’s California or my homeland Lebanon .
In addition , seeing my mom bake since a young age also inspired me to bake as well , I enjoy both and have two instagram accounts @batootz , and @bakerpainter , recently been more active on my baking page making sugar cookie art , cakes , tarts , as a part time
job my my mom @cinamoms .
Building a brand is definitely not easy and challenging since nowadays the focus is on marketing and advertising your work via social media, but I believe if you don’t give up , and work hard , someday you can achieve your goals .
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my friend was visiting , I would definitely take her to my favorite pizza place , Big Al’s Pizzeria ,
then to my favorite park in San Pedro.
I would also take her to the Flower Garden in Pasadena , walk in Laguna Beach and definitely go to San Diego for couple of nights .
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Definitely my mom , she always been my first supporter since day one , she always encouraged me to try the things I have interest in , she is also an amazing baker , she taught us how to make delicious food and dessert and that’s how , now I’m merging both my artistic and baking skills together.
