We had the good fortune of connecting with Folayan Obembe and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Folayan, career-wise, where do you want to be in the end?
The end goal is to build/buffer an eco-system of authentic African culture and lifestyle in the Americas. At the end of my career I want to see healthy African communities basking in the fullness of their heritage in these United States.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am a Business Technology Consultant and I am passionate about emerging tech and digital transformation. I am most proud of the connections I have made since my career began and the initiatives I have led. I got started because a Technology Manager gave me a chance out of college and I in turn discovered I liked Consulting. As any Consultant will tell you, the industry can be volatile. It is a very competitive professional world and not every engagement will be your favorite nor your best. It has not been easy but it has been rewarding, like many experiences, it takes a bit of courage to adapt and wisdom to learn. I am all about evolving — I am committed to growth. I want the world to know representation matters to me, inclusion is not to be trivialized and we are capable of more, together.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
At the moment, I would take him to happy hour at Joey DTLA on day one. We may spend the rest of the evening there to be honest. Otherwise, we might look for a rooftop close by, somewhere like The Standard. We would spend some time between Melrose and Fairfax to get fits and might do Nobu to say we did Nobu. Over the weekend we would do brunch at Mama Shelter or Openaire. Depending on whats open at the time might tap in with our people Afrolituation or just hang out in the neighborhood and make suya with friends. Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
