Meet FRANCIS YUSHAU BROWN | Founder & Creative Director

We had the good fortune of connecting with FRANCIS YUSHAU BROWN and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi FRANCIS YUSHAU, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
In a stroke of unexpected fate, I found myself becoming an accidental entrepreneur driven by a burning passion for animation in Ghana. Frustration filled my heart as I witnessed the exodus of talented artists and animators leaving the country due to the lack of opportunities and a sense of community. Realizing the potential that lay untapped within Ghana’s borders, I decided to take matters into my own hands. Armed with a vision to establish a full-time running animation studio, I embarked on an arduous journey of determination and resilience. Gathering like-minded individuals who shared the same dream, we set out to create a thriving hub for animators, artists, and storytellers. Our studio would not only provide employment but also foster a supportive and creative community, offering a space where talent could flourish. Despite the challenges and setbacks, we persevered, and our animation studio slowly took shape. Through dedication and ingenuity, we began producing captivating animated content that resonated not just in Ghana but also on the international stage. Inadvertently, my accidental foray into entrepreneurship had become a catalyst for transforming the animation landscape in Ghana, preserving local talents, and putting the country on the global animation map.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Francis Y. Brown, an extraordinary artist, is a masterful storyteller who weaves captivating tales of Africans using various mediums. My expertise lies in motion picture storytelling, with a deep affection for historical adventures. In a world where the struggle for identity resonates among Africans both on the continent and in the diaspora, I harness the power of my art to educate and enlighten, especially the younger generation, about their rich history, great civilizations, enduring hardships, and the need to make informed decisions for a brighter future. Through my art, I try to bring hope, empathy, and love to the forefront, painting a world where kindness reigns supreme. Social issues are a crucial focal point of my work, as I tactically expose the ills of society and call for meaningful action to effect positive change.
Paving an uncharted path in Ghana, West Africa, hasn’t been without its challenges, but I persevere. When I first started, there were only a handful of colleagues across Africa who championed the African narrative in the way I did. Financial constraints and the need for capacity building have been significant hurdles. Nevertheless, my determination led to a remarkable partnership with the world’s leading animation school Ecole Gobelin Paris, where I trained talents from Ghana, Ivory Coast, Benin, and Nigeria. This visionary training program not only bridges knowledge gaps on the continent but also generates employment opportunities for Africa’s ever-growing youth population.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
My friend is in for an incredible adventure in Ghana, guided by a true Coast boy with a love for his homeland. The journey begins with a visit to the beaches, where the sun-kissed sands and the rhythmic waves of the Atlantic Ocean welcome them. It’s a perfect spot to unwind, soak up the coastal vibes, and indulge in delicious local cuisine (Jollof, Banku and grilled Tilapia with pepper sauce). Next, we’ll head to the majestic mountains to conquer the mighty Mount Afadjato, the tallest peak in Ghana. Hiking through lush greenery and breathtaking vistas, they’ll be rewarded with a sense of accomplishment and stunning panoramic views from the summit.
No trip to Ghana is complete without a visit to the enchanting Aburi Botanical Gardens. Nestled amidst the cool mountain air, this picturesque garden is a botanical haven filled with vibrant flora and peaceful serenity, perfect for a leisurely stroll and relaxation.
The exploration continues with a visit to awe-inspiring waterfalls, where the natural beauty of cascading waters amidst verdant landscapes will leave you both mesmerized. The magical ambiance provides an opportunity for unforgettable moments and plenty of photo-worthy memories.
Lastly, they’ll delve into the rich history of Ghana and Africa by visiting the hauntingly significant Slave Dungeons. This somber reminder of the past will allow them to reflect on the hardships endured by enslaved Africans. On a more uplifting note, we’ll also pay homage to the burial site of Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, Africa’s first prime minister and a key figure in Ghana’s independence movement. This historic visit will deepen their understanding of the nation’s struggles and triumphs, leaving a lasting impact on my friend’s experience in Ghana.
Throughout the journey, my friend will be captivated by Ghana’s diverse landscapes, its profound history, and the warm hospitality of its people, all guided by a Coast boy who takes immense pride in sharing the wonders of my country with a cherished visitor.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Shoutout to GOD ALMIGHTY, for being the guiding force throughout my life’s journey, providing the strength and courage to overcome obstacles and grow from strength to strength. Next, I want to send a big love and gratitude to my late grandmother, Madam Mary Kusieku Kwofie, whose unwavering faith and love shaped my character, instilling in me essential principles and morals that continue to guide my life.
A special shoutout goes to Barnabas Korley, the one who first introduced me to the world of computers and digital design, inspiring me to pursue my passion and helping me shape my creative vision. I am forever grateful for the knowledge and support you’ve provided. I also want to express my appreciation to Akua Ofosuhene, who believed in me and gave me the opportunity to embark on my first production, paving the way for me to grow and become an animation director. To all my colleagues, teachers, and supporters, thank you for believing in me and pushing me forward. To those who doubted me and tried to bring me down, even the bullies, you only fueled my determination to succeed. And lastly, a shoutout to myself! Despite the challenges, I refused to give up on my dreams, and it’s through perseverance that I continue to thrive and succeed.
