Meet Gabriela Ono | Film Producer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Gabriela Ono and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Gabriela, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
At the time I chose to go to film school, the idea of content creation was at its first stages of conceptualization. All my family and close friends were a bit worried with my choice to pursue something creative. But growing up I was involved with so many artistic outlets, that the only path I could see for myself was a creative one. I was into drawing, music, and movies. As I got closer to choosing a college, filmmaking made the most sense with my abilities and my overall passion. And I strongly feel like I made the right decision.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I moved to LA from Brazil around 6 years ago. I came here with the goal to learn everything I needed to become a great film producer. I knew I was going to experience amazing things, only because I was here. But things were much more than expected. I worked really hard to make connections and keep myself busy. But I also believe I was lucky to some extent. I met the right people who needed someone like me. And all that effort and luck led me to all I have accomplished today. I’ve produced several documentaries in the supernatural niche. Which, even though it wasn’t something I was that interested, it became amazing adventures where I lived crazy things, but also learned so much about making movies. Just looking at my resume, I find crazy that I managed to accomplish so much more than I expected in the past few years. But I also know that there’s so much more I need to do to truly make my name in this town. I’ve learned that you can’t stop learning. The film industry evolves so fast, and you got to keep yourself curious. You can always learn something new from a mentor or an apprentice.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Because I’m a film buff, I would take them to everything film related. At least one studio tour. Rodeo Drive because of Pretty Woman. Disneyland and Universal, for sure, because Brazilians love theme parks. And of course, the beach, as we have a very popular song in Brazil talking about the Californian beaches. My favorite restaurant is Los Amigos in Burbank, and to me is a must visit.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to dedicate this shoutout to so many people. I wouldn’t be here today if it wasn’t for, first of all, my parents. Who have supported me in every step of the way to make it to Hollywood. I want to thank my mentors Marisa Lloreda and Serena DC, who have given me an opportunity that I know not everyone has access to. And lastly my friends, Rodrigo Varandas, Thais Scarabelli and Gisela Garcia Prunes for being my family away from home and being my cheerleaders.
