We had the good fortune of connecting with Gabriella Then and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Gabriella, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
I have so many moving parts behind the scenes of my professional golf career. It’s so hard to pick the most important because there are several!
Behind my success is the support from my family and boyfriend. They push me to be the best I can be and continue to work diligently in my craft. They believe in me to be successful so that pushes me also.
I’m only successful because of them.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’ve reached this level of professional golf through discipline and passion. Through this job, I’ve had to remember why I started in the first place because of the emotional roller coasters you go through. There are bad and good golf days, but remembering why you started will help you keep moving forward. I’ve learned to think about the big picture and understand that each day is part of your story. You can’t control everything, but it will all work out in the end.
I almost gave up professional golf in 2020. I thought that this wasn’t for me anymore. Not only was it draining me financially, but physically and mentally. I didn’t understand why I was even playing golf anymore. But I had to overcome that challenge. I had to remember why I started, why I love golf again. When you find your passion, it reignites you to work even harder. So now in 2021, I am fully back and playing full professional golf again. I even got my first professional golf win in March!
I am most proud of getting a full golf scholarship to the University of Southern California. This was the cherry on top that all my parents’ sacrifices through my teen years were worth it.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Places to go: Disneyland, Anaheim Packing District, Newport Beach, Santa Monica, Abbott Kinney, malibu
Places to eat: Korean BBQ, Sushi. Mediterranean
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’ve started playing golf since the age of 5 and grown to play internationally by age 12. This success is only thanks to my parents. Not only did they support me financially, but the time and effort to get me to the next level is unparalleled.
I wouldn’t have had the opportunity to play on the golf team at the University of Southern California or travel all over the world representing the United States of America.
My shoutout goes out to Mom & Dad.
