Meet Garrett Alvarado | Artist & Photographer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Garrett Alvarado and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Garrett, what role has risk played in your life or career?
NO RISK NO REWARD
Risk has been a huge part of my life/career. Always being the friend or sibling that’s going against the grain. It seems risky betting on yourself at first but overtime you’ll realize the risk is putting your future in the hands of others.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My art are the results of me calling my friends everyday and pitching ideas. I’d like to think of my art career as the real life Phineas and Ferb.
I’ve had a few mentors since the beginning of my art career that taught me about business, photography, and the business of photography.
While I did deal with challenges, having people around guiding me was crucial to not failing to the point of no return.
Some lessons I’ve learned along the way is success looks so different for so many people. Building relationships is far more important than being the best at what you do.
I’m making art out of love, I’m not doing anything to prove to people who’ve doubted me. The moves I make are not only for myself but for the people around me and for the greater good of the art community.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
To star the day, we’re going to Blue Jam Cafe for breakfast then hitting Santee alley to walk it off while we look at all the crazy stuff that’s sold. For lunch we’re going to a LA classic Pinks hotdogs after eating you gotta checkout Melrose ave to shop and people watch! After lunch I suggest going to Malibu Creek national park then going to Point Dume for sunset. Finishing the day with a fancy dinner overlooking LA at Yamashiro Hollywood.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Logan Wiggins, has been a big part of my creative process the last 2 years where I’ve grown the most as an artist.
