We had the good fortune of connecting with Jimena Fosado and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jimena, what life experience do think has had the biggest impact on you?
Moving abroad. It helped me to be independent, trust my guts and go for what I want regardless of the odds and the bumps in the road. Putting myself out there helped me build my career touring in the U.S. and internationally. I’m part of a musical (opera rock) that tours arenas and coliseums thanks to the experience and knowledge I acquired throughout my life. Having the eager to learn from others will get you so far!
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
It wasn’t easy at all! I was born in Mexico City and I moved to L.A. to attend college. I had many bumps before I got U.S. tours, presence on social media, and meet people in the industry. In the beginning, I took internet as an advantage and I’d post my content there. It’s unbelievable how much it can do! I got some auditions and didn’t make it at first. I kept thinking it was too hard and doubted my skills. Right when I didn’t know what my next move would be, I got a call to be a lead guitarist for a popular musical with big artists known worldwide. I’m lucky enough to play in arenas with thousands of people attending. It all started as a dream. The main thing is to keep trying and keep moving, even when there’s uncertainty, trust your guts instinct.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
My hometown is Mexico City. I’d take them to the pyramids, all the ruins from the Aztecs. The Xochimilco lake, downtown and museums that show the influence we have from France and Spain. Maybe a beach, Los Cabos or Cancún. Would make them try so many options of tacos! I love the place “Señor taco”.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Dan Gilbert has helped me to become the musician I am. He helped me get the courage to audition plenty of times as a musician and made a big impact in my career. Best instructor and even friend, that encouraged me through tough times.
