Meet Gary House | Actor, Model & Activist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Gary House and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Gary, what do you want people to remember about you?
I want my legacy to be that of a champion in the advancement of black people. I want people to remember that I was caring, steadfast in what I believe in and a symbol of black excellence.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
The way that I got involved with modeling and acting was kind of serendipitous. Prior to getting into the industry I was playing professional volleyball in Europe. During Covid I ended up coming home and while home I tore my labrum and supraspinatus, I had given myself 5 years to play from the time I graduated and then I was going to reevaluate where I was in my career and my life. This was my 5th year so everything was kind of pushing me away from continuing to play. Then while waiting to vote for the presidential election there were only two polling locations so needless to say it took forever. I ended up getting to know the people I was in line with and one of them was a singer. She invited me to be apart of her music video she was shooting a couple months later and while on set I met one of my best friends now who was a aspiring actor. We hit the ground running after that day and never looked back.

Presently I am still working to make my way in this industry but I am growing my team and we create our own content on a consistent basis in between doing paid work. The biggest thing I’m learning about this industry like life is that networking is key. You have to put yourself out there and get in the room, show people your face and tell them your story. My biggest goal with acting is to represent the black community in the most positive and uplifting way. I want to tell black stories and represent prominent historical figures like Chadwick Boseman did with his career.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my bestfriend is coming to visit we would hang out in Hermosa, It’s my favorite place. It has everything that I want and need. The beach, volleyball and great food.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Shout out to my friends and family. I am a firm believer that no one is self made. We have all had a hand up at some point in time, no matter how big or small. The affects of a simple I believe in you are immeasurable.
