We had the good fortune of connecting with Genevieve Anders and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Genevieve, how has your background shaped the person you are today?
I am from Northern California, Sonoma County to be exact. I started modeling at the age of 14 and had a career till I was 31. Modeling 100% helped shape who I am as a photographer. It taught me how to interact with clients. You would never know I am a huge introvert if you booked me for your photoshoot. You would think I am an extrovert. It’s all thanks to modeling! Modeling taught me lighting conditions, and how to prompt clients in a natural way. Who knows if I would be a photographer today if it hadn’t been for my modeling career.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I am super proud of my business! I have ride or die clients that have been booking me once or twice or even three times a year for years now. I literally get to watch my clients grow up. It’s an amazing thing to be trusted so much by your clients. I think what sets me apart from other photographers is I am able to become your best friend within minutes of meeting each other. That makes the client feel so comfortable and relaxed for their photos. I bring the candid out of the stiff posers, and every single time I photograph someone, they rave about how much fun it was.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If a friend came to LA for the first time, I would be overwhelmed with options. LA will forever be my favorite city. The first place we are going is the Santa Monica rings at Original Muscle Beach. They are for sure getting on the rings and trying the slackline. Even if you have no interest in a muscle beach workout, it’s the perfect place to people watch! We are then heading over to Urth Cafe and you better believe I am getting my green tea blended boba! Another fav spot is Seal Beach! It’s never crowded, it has beautiful rocks, and always a gorgeous sunset. If my friend had kids, I would take them to El Dorado nature center and let everyone run wild through nature there. Pho Tasty is my favorite pho in the area. Someone that has never been to LA before, MUST check out El Matador beach in Malibu. It’s truly the most magical beach ever. After we are done there, we head to Malibu Seafood for lunch!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My Texas bestie Mary Hickman deserves a shoutout for sure! She FORCED me to bring my fancy camera over to her house one day to photograph her baby. I had no idea what I was doing, but somehow the photos turned out really cute! She then demanded I make a website. I was SUPER against this because I thought the entire thing was so silly. No way was I going to become a photographer and charge people money? What? How? I did as she commanded and now I have a very successful photography career!
