Meet Georgia Dontas | FOUNDER

We had the good fortune of connecting with Georgia Dontas and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Georgia, what do you want your legacy to be?
Legacy holds a lot of weight so a business mogul who created something fun, approachable and centered in the sustainable design community. I’d like to be remembered as a spiritual, giving, ambitious person who always persevered. I am the a child of Immigrants who worked hard to give me the opportunities to be able to do what I LOVE. Learning life skills and work ethic early in formative years and being able to share that with the next generation.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
PRINCE + BROOME is a contemporary e-boutique born in and inspired by SoHo, New York City. The name was chosen because I worked in SoHo for many years and these two iconic streets, although running parallel to one another, encase some of the best shopping destinations in the world. The aesthetic is classic and street chic without compromising quality or sustainability. I decided to try something different and begin online only as the retail landscape in NYC has been challenging. The goal is to have a store but once I have some momentum and sales can to support that venture. The e-boutique focuses on stylish clothing that is well-made and each brand is chosen because of their mission to contribute to sustainable practices. Prince + Broome has branded Pop Ups around NYC and Long Island for brand awareness, customer feedback and to keep clients excited. I like to listen to my clients and make sure that I take their comments seriously, which is different from larger boutiques that can’t pivot business as quickly.
I began my career in finance which is integral to being a successful entrepreneur and understanding what money should be spent on early on. I then went to Parsons The New School for Fashion Design and learned to sew, drape, color theory, adobe applications and design in general. During my time there I began working retail for Louis Vuitton, followed by wholesale for Children’s Nike, back to Louis Vuitton opening Pop Up stores around Manhattan and finally TheRealReal. All of these experiences taught me different aspects of the fashion industry as well as client experience and luxury brands. Working in the NYC fashion industry is difficult and requires a tough skin as this is where everyone comes to be better than the rest. The most important element of what I learned was what clients expect in experience, quality and what is takes to earn their trust.
The world should know that Prince + Broome is truly a small business that is attempting to achieve the American Dream! Every decision made is well thought out and our mission is to bring a luxury client experience to the Contemporary market.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Welcome to New York! Where do you begin in the city that never sleeps? The first stop would be Central Park. Depending on the weather the park can be a fun experience and is free! Next stop would be one of the Museums, The Met is a good one as it is not far and can be followed by 5th Avenue. Whether its shopping or perusing windows, 5th Avenue is home to Bergdorf Goodman, every international luxury brand as well as Saks Fifth Avenue, which is different from every other Saks around the country. I’d also make sure to take them to SoHo to understand the stark difference from Uptown and Downtown. Foodies rejoice, this might be the mecca for many different cuisines but the ones that stick out to me are Zabar’s for bagels, Mamoun’s Falafel for Falafel and LB Spumoni Gardens for Pizza in Brooklyn.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Definitely! I believe that a strong support system is the reason I had the confidence and desire to do something entrepreneurial. I’d like to thank my family, specifically my parents. My parents are immigrants from Greece that came to America and worked very hard to provide a better life for my siblings and I. We didn’t have much growing up, nor did our parents have the time to be at every game or tuck us in at night but they taught first hand that your success is entirely in your hands. I cannot thank them enough for giving me all the tools to be a great human being and business person.
