Meet Gianni Carter | DJ and Music Producer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Gianni Carter and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Gianni, what habits do you feel play an important role in your life?
My success can be attributed to a combination of habits developed over the years through both my athletic background and my business acumen. First, athletics taught me the importance of discipline, resilience, and a strong work ethic. These habits are vital for staying focused, consistently improving, and pushing through challenges. In the music industry, this translates to an ability to set clear goals, work hard toward them, and bounce back from setbacks.
Additionally, my ability to build authentic relationships has been a key factor in my success. I prioritize connecting with people on a personal level, understanding their needs, and fostering trust. This has allowed me to build strong networks, collaborate effectively, and create lasting partnerships.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My art as a DJ is deeply influenced by my background in athletics, which has instilled in me a relentless drive and discipline. Athletics taught me the importance of perseverance, pushing boundaries, and maintaining focus, all of which I carry into my music. But what really sets me apart in this industry is my ability to create meaningful relationships and build a community around my sets. It’s not just about playing music; it’s about making genuine connections with the people who come out to support me. With every event I DJ, I aim to make it feel like a reunion, where the crowd and I share not just the music, but a sense of belonging and shared experience.
Getting to where I am today was not easy. There were plenty of challenges along the way, from honing my craft to navigating the ups and downs of the music industry. But through perseverance, staying true to myself, and constantly working to improve, I’ve overcome those obstacles. One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is the power of community and the importance of staying grounded. The relationships I’ve built with people—whether fans, fellow artists, or event organizers—have been just as vital to my growth as my technical skills behind the decks.
What I want the world to know about me is that my journey is about more than just music—it’s about creating spaces where people can connect, celebrate, and feel like they’re part of something bigger. My brand is about authenticity, community, and the joy of coming together through music.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
First things first, I would pick my friend up from LAX—because, honestly, I love my friends and want to make sure they have the best time. From there, we’d head straight to Courage Bagels, one of my favorite spots in LA, to grab what I think is the best bagel in the city. It’s the perfect way to kick things off.
After getting a taste of LA’s bagel scene, we’d drop their luggage off at the hotel, then immediately head out to explore. For lunch, I’d take them to Erewhon, a place known for its ridiculously fancy health food. It’s always fun to play a little game: “Guess how much this smoothie costs?” Spoiler: it’s always more than you think, but it’s definitely worth the experience.
Next up, we’d hop over to one of my favorite clothing stores, Mohawk General Store. We’d browse through their curated selection of clothes and pick out some killer outfits for the night. It’s the perfect mix of trendy and timeless.
When the evening rolls around, I’d take them to Anajack Thai in Sherman Oaks for my favorite dinner. The flavors here are unreal, and it’s the kind of place that feels cozy but elevated at the same time.
To wrap up the night, we’d head to Lost DTLA, an incredible spot with an amazing atmosphere, perfect for hanging out, grabbing a drink, and just soaking in the downtown vibe. It’s a place that truly captures the energy of the city and gives you a memorable end to an action-packed day.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I have to give a huge shoutout to my parents. My mother and father have been fundamental in shaping the success I’ve experienced. They not only instilled crucial values in me, like hard work, perseverance, and integrity, but they also taught me the importance of support and seeing things through, no matter how challenging it might get. My mom, in particular, has always dreamed of making it in the music industry, and it’s surreal to be able to live out that dream with her and bring her along for the journey. Her unwavering belief in me and the lessons she’s shared have been a steady foundation for everything I’ve accomplished. I truly wouldn’t be where I am without both of their guidance and encouragement.
