Meet gil dabney | Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with gil dabney and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi gil, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
It is really all I know how to do. I started in the church choir when I was 5 years old and had years of piano lessons. Then I moved to drums and percussion and I studied with Vern Ewan of The Dallas Symphony Orchestra. i have played drums for many people in all kinds of bands. I took up guitar along the way and use that as a tool as well.
I work hard in the studio making records for myself and other people. I learned along the way how to keep a band functioning and moving forward. Entertaining people at a high level is an important job which is sadly not given the respect in the community that it once did.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
As a creative person you work alone but you also work with a lot of other people. I like working with others to make a project happen.. In my case overcoming challenges is part of the process of being creative.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
This is not in my wheelhouse. I tend to not go out unless I am working.. I used to like the Orange Circle and Downtown Tustin are cool places to go..

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My family and all the friends from the years to now. . There is no one person.
