We had the good fortune of connecting with Giorgia Sinatra and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Giorgia, we’d love to hear what makes you happy.

Many things make me happy! First, simply being around is already awesome. Life wasn’t easy while I was growing up, but I would not change anything because I’m proud of the person I am today.

I’m extremely happy to be a mother of two wonderful kids and an angel baby, they make me a better person every day and a better daughter!

I’m so happy of being able to feel happiness again! For about 15 years of my life (almost half of my entire life!) I suffered of chronic depression that literally took away the ability to be happy and emotionally functional. While I was deep in the whole, I never thought that it would be possible to live a different life and being healthy again, but I was wrong. Today my life is far away from being perfect, but being able to love myself and the people around me makes me feel absolutely happy!

What’s written on our branded t-shirts is also a reality, not only a slogan! Pasta Makes Me Happy and being able to share this happiness, my family recipes and traditions, the food my grandmother and mother prepared for me my entire life (I still go to eat at my mom’s house at least twice a week), it’s pure joy. My happiest memories are around food and probably is not as weird that I end up opening a restaurant even if I never thought about doing that until it happened! What’s funny is that the question people ask me the most when they discover that I’m one of the sisters of Pasta Sisters is: How many times do you eat pasta per week? and the answer is EVERY DAY! Seating in front of a plate of pasta is my happy place!

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?

When we opened Pasta Sisters the main thing that set us apart from others was giving a casual and affordable touch to Italian cuisine.

Getting where we are today wasn’t easy at all. We build Pasta Sisters with very little money and learning day by day the challenges of owning a business in a completely new Country (we moved to the US three years before we opened our fist location).
Our mission was clear from the very beginning: sharing our culinary culture and preserving its authenticity while keeping it casual and affordable. Honestly, none of those values and goals were easy to maintain, especially in a city like LA where everyone is used to customize their dish and the food, labor and living cost are very high and out of control but, I believe that being a family that came here with almost nothing helped us keep our mission strong and intact.

We don’t compromise the quality of our ingredients or the quality of the service we want to offer because what we serve is not just food, is the food we grew up with, it’s the food that shaped our memories and serving it in the best way we can is a form of respect.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Fun! Let’s first go hike at Griffith Park and let’s reach the Griffith Park Observatory Trails Peak, the 360 view of Los Angeles County it’s a perfect way to understand how crazy big this town is. Since we are already in the area I would probably stop by Sushi Ai in Los Feliz and then since I’m in the area, I would grab a ponchik (It’s an Armenian “donut” filled with cream, jam, or Nutella) at Papillion International Bakery. A day in front of the Pacific Ocean it’s a must especially if the person that is visiting never saw the Ocean before. I would probably go to Malibu (Pirate’s cove Beach) and I would definitely stop by Neptun’s Net to get a clam chowder and some fried fish. A day in Koreatown could include a Korean BBQ meal and a late-night dinner at BCD Tofu House. I would probably visit West Hollywood on Friday or Saturday night and go dance at the Abby Food & Bar. Some shopping at Century City with dinner or lunch at Din Tai Fung. LACMA, Getti Villa and Natural History Museum + rose garden are probably my three favorite museums and a quick car tour of Downtown LA with a stop at Howlin’ Ray’s for some spicy fried chicken!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?

I was extremely lucky to meet Elisabetta, an incredible woman, mother, teacher, writer and piano player. I was just a baby when I met her, and she was somehow next to me until I left Italy and I moved to LA. She was the person I missed the most when I left.

Evelyne from Mauro’s Cafe gave me my first job when I moved to the US, and I will always be grateful. I spoke very little English, and I could understand even less but still she gave me my first job as a server. The fact that she gave me that possibility even if I was not ready for it gave me the sprint to learn fast and be better.
