We had the good fortune of connecting with Archana Liggins and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Archana, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
I have worked hard to have a positive impact in various communities and working with families in need. In my professional role as a food banker in Illinois and in my role as a CEO and Founder of BAG Lady Outreach. I am passionate about everything and do everything in excellence. I have ensured that the families, in need, have access to nutritious meals on a consistent basis, hygiene products, and PPE during the time of COVID. I have been a proven leader due to tenacity and dedication to serving those in need and that’s due largely to having the heart to serve people and being committed to building the community.
The success of BAG Lady Outreach and myself is due to being community-driven and believing that everyone deserves to be treated with kindness and respect! Its one thing to provide families with providing basic necessities, but the other is to impact their life. A smile, a fist bump or kind word is lasting and can empower their day and restore hope.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
As shared for my professional job – I work for a local Illinois Food Bank with families in need and make sure they get nutritious foods through feeding programs like food pantries and soup kitchens. Even on my own and with my family and friends we volunteer at sites and I’m always ecstatic to see the clients and families that are served. From me seeing the need in the community I started giving back on my 38th birthday by giving gently used purse filled with items away. 5 years later I turned my outreach efforts into BAG Lady Outreach, a non-profit (501c3) organization formed to alleviate the burden of accessing personal care items in underserved communities. In 2020, we distributed over 14,000 #PromotingHealthyHygieneHabits bags that include hygiene items and PPE this year alone – locally and nationwide. Due to the pandemic, BAG Lady Outreach had to adjust our existing program to the closing of many public spaces, conducting and delivering our service in a way that adheres to health, safety, and social distancing guidelines. Normally, our program involved collecting and repurposing new and gently used bags and purses to fill with toiletries and other hygiene products, as well as, coordinating volunteer service opportunities, inviting individuals, groups, and families to learn more about poverty, raise awareness in their neighborhoods, cook and serve meals for those in shelters (in the same communities that I work in), as well as collect products, assemble “blessing bags”, and distribute them during outreach events.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Definitely using Google and Social Media for search of “local” breakfast spots, lunch and brunch options, and great drink options! Seeing what the local neighbors have to say and reading organic comments about places in their communities are the best. Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I am grateful and shout-out everyone for all the support and engagement for BAG Lady Outreach! From my husband and kids who help as needed while at home to my parents who and family and friends who support! Thank you and a super shout-out to all of the donors and volunteers – without them this work couldn’t be done this support helps our mission to make a positive tangible impact in the lives of those affected by poverty in local and surrounding communities. I greatly appreciate your commitment to making a difference in the lives of those we serve. I appreciate my BFF, mentors, sounding boards, prayer warriors, team, and board members without their help and guidance we wouldn’t be where we are today. Thank you Rachael of Rosemint Media for bringing my ideas to life and executing all ideas and tasks for the brand and organization!
Thank you all again and for the support for the continued success of BAG Lady Outreach and for helping us make a difference, one bag at a time!
