Meet Giorgio Rossini | Actor and Filmmaker

We had the good fortune of connecting with Giorgio Rossini and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Giorgio, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking.
Risk is the constant driving force of both my personal and artistic life, a motivation and resolution for my projects.
I came to the US in 2019 from a very ordinary and routine lifestyle in Italy, studying and living with or close to my family. Los Angeles taught me the importance of risk taking, of failing; yet, never giving up….”to go big or going home”. That’s why I returned in 2021 to attend the American Academy of Dramatic Arts. I risked going into debt for school, something usually unheard in Italy. I risked one year of taking acting classes online, and breaking up with my boyfriend at the time,; thus choosing my career over my love and personal life, something I have questioned over the years. After graduation, the most successful projects I’ve participated in as a producer and actor were quite a risk for me, in that `I took time away from my day job to donate time for the on-set experience of various projects.
But the rewards of getting my name on award-winning projects, seeing my work, be it in theaters, streaming services and/or television is worth all the sacrifices.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
“Go big or go home” is my motto and I follow it quite literally. In my art I like to look for and to bring to life big dreams, big visions, big plans, big stories…. And it’ always a hit.
First of all, for me “big” means international: I focus on themes and characters that transcend time and space, someone everyone can easily relate to. Going beyond the specifics of the plot, using emotions rather than techniques, researching for common topics across the globe… Being Italian, I often thought of my accent as a limitation to my art, but now I see it quite clearly as a unique tool to include in my projects, to make them different, stand out. Both as an actor and filmmaker, I start from character work, from finding the person hidden behind the words of the script, that unique persona that is beyond any barrier of language, nationality, race, color, sexual orientation etc…
And that is also my approach in my personal challenges: seeing myself as a common person before than a singular personality. Finding the rational path and the emotional journey that led to the present situation, rather than focusing on specific moments and events.
It wasn’t always easy to leave behind my past and move forward to something new, something bigger. But my call is just too strong and loud to ignore it. I am Catholic and I believe in the “vocation” of every man and woman to fulfill their life in some role: I always knew I am called to something big. After 5 years of seminary (priesthood school), I left everything behind to get into the arts, especially acting. Los Angeles is now my big call, my big plan, and I am determined to respond and be worthy of it.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
When my best friends will visit me, I will show them what LA means to me.
I will take them to try and experience the multicultural fast food present in the city: American burgers at In n Out, Mexican tacos at Papi Tacos & Churros, Italian panini at Mamie…
I will tour them the most world famous views around the county: Santa Monica pier, Venice and Malibu for a relaxing beach day; Beverly Hills for a fashionable walk; Griffith Park and the Hollywood sign for a good hike; the Hollywood walk of fame for a star-like experience in the heart of the filming industry; Spire 73 for a fancy drink at the tallest rooftop bat in DTLA.
I will show them my LGBT pride in the city of West Hollywood in the wild weekend nights at my favorite clubs (HiTops, Beaches, Mickys, Abbey)

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to dedicate this shoutout to Dante and Barbara, true friends and supporters of my life, no matter what! Those friends that you meet once a year, but it feels like no time has passed at all since last time you hugged them tight. They are the first people I think about and I call in my darkest moment, and the people I share my successes with, along with my parents, Carla and Domenico.
