Meet Girvan Swirv Bramble | Stunt Actor, Bboy, and Black Business Advocate

We had the good fortune of connecting with Girvan Swirv Bramble and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Girvan, or better known Swirv, is your business focused on helping the community? If so, how?
I work with a team on a website called Black Cents, where we promote black owned online retail businesses in order to increase the exposure of high quality goods created within the black community.
I also am deeply apart of the Breaking (breakdance) Hip Hop community, and co created an event called Make History, held during Black History Month in February, celebrating black dancers &music history within our community, and fostering genuine familial connections for everyone that attends.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
After graduating UCR, I spent 3 years teaching English and dancing in South Korea, and then I spent a full year backpacking the world. I went to South East Asia, South America, and Europe, battling, learning, and forming amazing connections with other breakers in each country I visited. It was the experience of a lifetime and I wouldn’t trade it for anything.
After the major bulk of my travels ended I came back to Cali, where I decided to try out the industry, first as a dancer, but also trying my hand at everything in performance (acting, modeling, Voice over, Stunts, etc).
It wasn’t easy, my first year I was commuting 3-4 times a week from Riverside, driving 4 hours through traffic just to audition for $200 gigs, while living in my friend’s garage. My second year I lived in Torrance for 8 months on a mattress on my friend’s floor with my gf at the time, who I met dancing in Australia, but was from Italy and came back with me on a tourist visa at the time. She had to keep exiting and entering the country every 3 months, and this was what I had to offer her. But we saw our hard work and efforts pay off. By the 3rd year we were able to afford our own place, and I saw my career really start to take off, especially in stunts. I remember when I got the call to work on Ant Man and the Wasp for a full month in San Francisco and Atlanta, 3 weeks after I finally joined SAG-Aftra. That was a big example of consistent hard work paying off, and I was able to take my gf on a trip to Hawaii right after filming for her birthday.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Precovid or after? Haha Well my favorite place in LA hands down is Venice Beach. I used to street perform there and Santa Monica, but there’s nothing like the free vibes that Venice Beach gives off. Everyone out there does what they like, and if you ever want to clear your head, or be inspired by other artists, that’s the place to go. For food, I would take them to some Caribbean restaurants I know here in Inglewood where I stay, the most amazing food you’ll have. There are also great black owned brunch places like Court Cafe, the Serving Spoon, and Pann’s, you’ll get your fill of chicken and waffles real quick haha.
My favorite view is a hill overlooking Ladera Heights, it’s breathtaking and you only get it driving over it into Inglewood, but really it is just beautiful. Even more than the view Griffith Observatory gives. It’s one of those, only if you live here you’ll know about it.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
The Breaking community in the Inland Empire changed the course of my life. I never even really heard the term bboy before going to the University of California Riverside, but after meeting the breakers there, it overtook my whole focus and direction. Without that amazing community of friends, I most likely wouldn’t have traveled the world or joined the Hollywood industry as I have.
I’ve also had many friends and mentors within business and the film industry that have helped me learn so much a long the way. Shoutouts to those that took and still take the time to help me grow, it doesn’t go unnoticed or unappreciated.
