We had the good fortune of connecting with Glenn Marsden and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Glenn, do you have a favorite quote or affirmation?
‘Ability is what you are capable of doing, Motivation determines what you do, Attitude determines how well you do it’
To me, it sums up this Entrepreneurial journey.
Fundamentally, it can be one of the most empowering journeys anybody can go on to achieve their personal and professional goals in life and ultimately learn about themselves through that process.
But along that journey, it can also be one of the hardest paths you may ever have to take too.
To face a reflection in the mirror that may have so many old narratives you have long told yourself, questioning those abilities, questioning yourself, the sacrifices, the set backs, the ups and the downs, and knowing you can either keep moving forward one step at a time or quit.
Thats where for me, this quote sums that journey up.
We all have the ability and that is what we are all capable of doing. Through that process you go through on this entrepreneurial journey, through those tough times is where pivotal moments show up and motivation determines what you will do and how you will grow and change those old beliefs and narratives you once told yourself and lastly, how you will ultimately move through the journey to keep going. That is your Attitude which is everything.
What should our readers know about your business?
I am the founder of one of Australia’s most publicised Mental Health movements which went Global in under 12 months with the backing of over 450 international Public Figures behind it including Celebrities, Corporate Leaders, the worlds most respected Scientists and Medical Professionals and is now an International Organisation which provides access to Resources, Programmes, Mental Health Summits and Events and provides a home for our Global Community to connect, network and be a part of a legacy that keeps on giving.
People will always see the end result when it comes to Business but most times do not see what it takes behind the scenes. Throughout my journey, I decided upon documenting the whole process and releasing those times of sacrifice, those times of working around the clock whilst simultaneously working a full time job to build my dream, those times of hardship, and also those incredible times of gratitude when things started moving and especially when we were seeing the impact our efforts were making to get people opening up and help with their Mental Health.
I have learned too many lessons along this journey but I can honestly say, if it wasn’t for those lessons along the process, there wouldn’t have been growth. Not just in business but in myself.
In a day and age when people rush to find success, those lessons especially in challenging times and failures will teach you invaluable lessons of growth , of where you went wrong, what you could do better next time and most importantly to dust yourself of, keep going and change that narrative around in how you view those difficult times.
For me, I started seeing and embracing the challenges and failures as lessons I needed to learn in order to grow. Once you view things differently, you can take a step back and understand the importance of not trying to rush anything along the journey.
You also see things through a different perspective on trying not to rush things.
You have to ask yourself and become honest with yourself, ‘Are you ready yet’
In that I mean, you have to understand that things rushed or based off emotional decisions because you want or think you will achieve success faster may not work the way you think.
Those rushing for the funding or the finances to come pouring in now. Well, ask yourself is your business in the correct position to be able to handle the finances if it all just suddenly came in. Are you ready? Would you know how to utilise all that money, to budget or to invest to make sure your business operated at a sustainable level.
Those who may be rushing to go viral with their business content. What if the content went viral for the wrong reasons? Would you be equipped to know how to handle that for you and your business?
These are all part of understanding all areas of growth with business and not just professionally but how it can affect you personally.
So yes, many many lessons I have learnt but all of which I can look back on and say I am grateful for each and every one of them.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
For me personally, it has to be in Venice.
A morning stroll down Venice Beach, then hitting Golds gym which has one of the best environments and communities you may ever be lucky enough to be a part of.
Everybody is just open to conversations, so welcoming and the place just has the most dope vibe.
Then it would have to be lunch on Abbott Kinney Blvd and if this is a week long trip, due to that place having some of the best restaurants and cafe’s – we would have to start at one end on Monday and work our way down each place before Friday !!!
I will say though, I would highly recommend one of THE BEST ribs houses I found whilst randomly driving on Lincoln Blvd and that was ‘Baby Blues BBQ’ – Absolutely delicious food!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would have to say for me personally I hold a huge amount of love and respect for each and every person that has got behind my vision and global movement to collectively change the narrative around Mental Health and get people including some of the worlds biggest names across Entertainment, Corporate, Sports, Science and the Medical Field speaking up and addressing those hard conversations.
If it wasn’t for people resonating and believing in what I was trying to do with my work and organisation, it truly wouldn’t be where it is today, so credit and recognition will always go to everybody that has played a part in support, getting on board, volunteering and spreading the word.
I also always give credit and recognition to God. If it wasn’t for him making a way when at times I didn’t see away, again I would not be where I am today making an impact and creating a legacy.
