We had the good fortune of connecting with Melissa Okabe and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Melissa, what is the most important factor behind your success?
I believe the most important factor behind my success is focusing on community and prioritizing relationships. My business is highly referral based, so without these strong relationships and the support from my community I would not be in the place I am today. I’m so grateful for my amazing friendships, business relationships, interpersonal relationships that have holistically contributed to my life and my intention is to constantly reflect that value and love back towards others.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
What sets me apart from others: I believe my biggest differentiator is my customer service and level of care. Some may resonate with my sales track record, background in marketing, international experience, social media skills, educational credentials, passion for yoga, or commitment to personal development… but I think at the end of the day what solidifies my relationship with my clients is that they know or can feel that I really care about them and their best interests. Proud of: I’m proud of being a Nominee for Rookie of the Year 2019 by the South Bay Association of Realtors! That was a huge honor. Excited about: I’m excited to continue helping as many clients as possible with their dream of being a homeowner, to continue expanding my business to include referral partners around the globe. Where I got where I am today: I truly believe consistently working on my personal growth has helped to expand my skill set and my mindset, and that has largely contributed to my success in my business. Overcoming challenges: One of my biggest challenges related to my career in real estate, was at an industry event when I was a new agent- and doubting myself and comparing myself at that moment in time to other agents that I perceived as “super successful”. That self-doubt and scarcity mentality was a limiting belief that was of course preventing me from taking steps toward where I wanted to go. Quite frankly, I was thinking way too small. Thankfully due to the many great people around me, I was able to turn around my mindset to a growth mindset/ abundance mindset and that has made all the difference. Shifting to giving, helping, adding maximum value- knowing that the abundance will come back in one way or another, and remembering that just because I’m not there “yet” doesn’t mean I won’t get there… especially when my actions and time is organized with intention behind it. And, I’m happy to report the year following I went back to that same event with my head held high – rocking my sales and even surpassing my goals, but more importantly just with a completely different mindset. That was a great gift that I tried to share with every new agent I talked to at that event- because I never want anyone else to feel the way I felt then or give up on themselves. We are all so full of unlimited potential. Always remember that! Lessons: Don’t stress about the things you can’t control (there are many moving parts in a transaction and no deal is ever the same)- instead focus on what you can control- do your best to the highest quality standards, bring the maximum amount of certainty to the situation for your client, and keep your mindset strong- because the client relationship is the most important part (not the deal itself). What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?: My aim is to create an amazing real estate experience for my clients where they feel completely supported and taken care of as they buy or list their home. With me on their team as their Realtor, my clients will receive an all-inclusive real estate experience, with customer service as my top priority. Working together, my intention is to make this process as streamlined as possible for my clients, by explaining the listing or buying process step-by-step, working with them on their marketing and/or negotiation strategy and providing dependable vendor partners as applicable (Escrow, Title, Inspectors, Lenders).
