Meet Gotaflika | Award Winning Recording Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Gotaflika and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Gotaflika, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
Ghana-African Music has become one of the most popular genres influencing artists around the world. Introduction of hip-hop in the early 90s is starting to combine with traditional songs to generate a new genre (Hip-Life). This has attracted young and talented individuals to become musicians. Music has always been a part of my life since I was a child. Moving to the U.S. has fueled my childhood passion, despite having the ability to perform for my people and the kids back in Africa that love my music.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
This year, I finished my backlog in Aviation Maintenance Management after more than a decayed in military service. Since finishing my degree program, I am looking forward to grabbing the bull by the horns with music.
In 2017, I moved from Japan to California where I released my EP, Single and album which went on to win the “Independent Music Awards” – ( IMA ) Reggae/Ska/Dancehall – 2020 Song of the Year.
Although the pandemic had an effect on the music industry, it didn’t stop me from collaborating with Zenobia Records on multiple exciting songs, including my most popular single “Psycho” where it was a pleasure to feature the Princess of Hip Hop Lyric Kane.
Music making has not been easy especially after the pandemic. One of the most difficult parts of this journey is working with people who are trustworthy.
As an artist, I believe that nobody should push me in achieving my goals. However, I’m happy to say sometimes there are people who are willing to sacrifice the little that they have for you to be successful.
My personal message of encouragement to anyone trying to make it in this challenging arts and entertainment industry is to be patience in your work.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
California is a melting pot for anyone seeking personal and professional opportunities. I would probably give them a one day tour of key historical places that Hollywood is known for, but for the most part they would be spending time with me in the recording studio supporting me while I work with my team on music.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Zenobia Records and I have new music we are currently working on to release to all of my fans this year.
