We had the good fortune of connecting with Hannah Joy Jackson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Hannah Joy, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
Being a mom to toddler, and running a health & fitness business has truly made me question how balanced my work/life flow actually is. Before having a baby, I could focus as much or as little time needed at growing my business, and although the responsibilities didn’t change when I became a mother, the intention of how I handle work and family definitely has. I’ve learned that balance is not linear. Some days I am heavy into work and running Hannah Joy Fitness and I am relying on my husband, or others in my close knit group to help step in to help with my toddler, or responsibilities at home, while other days I am passing the torch to my assistant to handle a big bundle of work related issues so I can be close to home and wearing 100% my mommy hat. Every day is different, and balance means that over all I am covering all the bases that are important to me and the health and well being of my family and business.

What should our readers know about your business?
I am a personal trainer and owner of Hannah Joy Fitness, a health and fitness company located in Los Angeles, CA. In the early years of my career, I began as a traveling personal trainer which took me to amazing places abroad such as Egypt and all across Europe. Through these travels, I met amazing people who were driven and I started to dream about starting a business that catered to women’s health and fitness all across the globe. Although success did not happen overnight, I truly believe that all the steps and places my training took me, created experiences that has shaped me into the business woman I am today. Credentials and studies are crucial to being a professional in my career in health and fitness, however, I view the relationships I have built and connections I have made along the journey as foundation to how I was able to build and now run Hannah Joy Fitness. Hard work is not always the answer. I believe time and consistency, along with hard work and the unwillingness to give up are the reason Hannah Joy Fitness is now the business it is. As my brand and company grows I want to be able to hold on to the personable ways it welcomes its clients, because that is what has built me to the place I am today.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
In Los Angeles, I live in the valley, but I am a beach girl through and though! If friends were visiting for the week, one day I would take them to Malibu for a hike and then wine tasting at Malibu Wines. On another day we would head down to the South Bay and spend the day in Manhattan Beach, lounging, swimming and eventually ending up at one of my favorite beach restaurant/bars called Simmzys. for fish tacos and sweet potato fries. Pre-covid my girlfriends use to meet up once a month on Thursday nights for “Thirsty Thursdays.” We would take turns picking our favorite wine tasting or dive bar. An all time favorite place to take visitors is a tiny dive bar hidden in North Hollywood call “Tonga Hut.” If you like tiki bar vibes, and flaming bowls of punch, this place is for you! LA always has amazing new eateries and restaurants to try, and being a foodie I do love these options, however I am a homebody as well and half the time friends visit we grill in the backyard and create our own pool party!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I could not run my business and grow a family at the same time without the help of my husband, Ronald Jackson. Having a hands on partner who shares 100 % of the parenthood responsibilities with our toddler allows me the freedom to continue to pursue my own personal goals that is the continuation of growing Hannah Joy Fitness.
