We had the good fortune of connecting with Hannah V. Robinson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Hannah V., how did you come up with the idea for your business?
HVR Studio was born from my entrepreneurial spirit when I realized untapped potential in the small business marketplace and the lack of time, freedom, and flexibility that so many business owners dream of. My mission began there: to enable these passionate people to focus on the most important thing – actually running their business or creating products – while generating a steady stream of leads and revenue through creative, effective and affordable marketing tactics.
I love helping small business owners refresh their brand and marketing strategy through a holistic process I created and have honed over the years. I have tried and true ways to help every business sell more and earn more money (that’s the goal, right?!), but the magic comes once I get to know a business from the inside out and come up with specific strategies for each unique business owner to implement. One of my favorite tactics to start with is designing a completely custom Squarespace website that truly reflects a client’s brand and business goals – complete with anything they need to run their business online: eCommerce, online booking, live chat, multiple language functionality, etc. One of my clients in Newport Beach is amazed at how much time and money she’s saved since I set up an appointment scheduling system on her new website (plus, she no longer needs to pay for a full-time receptionist!).
Along with website design and branding kits, I also offer copywriting services, creative photography and videography direction, as well as intensive hour-long coaching calls (via Zoom) where I share my screen and work live on whatever topic a client needs help with or wants learn about specific skill – social media, email marketing, how to get featured in magazines for free, Facebook advertising, you name it. While I love implementing various marketing strategies to make a client successful, I find it even more rewarding when they can take what I teach them and find success with it on their own!
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
To me, success means making a positive impact on someone else’s life, or business, in this case. At the end of the day, I am only as successful as my clients are – this is where I find my purpose and my passion – I love helping business owners re-imagine, restructure and renew their marketing functions to ensure agile and resilient organizations that serve customers effectively and make them money. I live my life and run my business by the motto, “Leave everything better than you found it.”
The biggest challenge (and blessing) is that HVR Studio goes wherever I go – since I freelance, I have the ultimate freedom to work from anywhere in the world. As of 2021, I have worked remotely in more than 40 countries, which is incredible, but it has also posed a fair share of obstacles when it comes to finding a strong WiFi signal, shifting time zones and meeting deadlines. Wherever I go, I treat my business as seriously as if I were back in my studio office in California and I tell my clients that they can depend on me 100% to work just as hard. You would be amazed to know just where I’ve taken my little “studio”… a white sand beach on Gili Air in Indonesia in between scuba dives, a tree-trunk “desk” in the middle of the Bardiya National Park in Nepal, a long snowy train ride on the St. Bernard Express through the Swiss Alps – just to name a few.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Hands down, my favorite area in LA is the South Bay. Manhattan Beach, Hermosa Beach and Redondo Beach are the most charming beach cities I have ever been to on the West Coast. It reminds me of Sydney, Australia – the people are friendly, the restaurants are all one-of-a-kind small businesses and the beaches are breathtaking. I love starting my day with a yoga class at Yoga MB in Manhattan Beach, lunch at Martha’s in Hermosa and rollerblading on the strand at sunset. The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Over the years, I’ve worked with the some of the most kind and passionate small business owners across the globe spanning the health and medical, technology, entertainment, fashion and travel sectors. Nothing brings me more joy than helping my clients reach a new level of confidence and profitability in their business. It is to these individuals that I owe my success. My clients have trusted me with everything, and for that, I am forever grateful.
