We had the good fortune of connecting with HeartBreakNixon and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi HeartBreakNixon, what’s something about your industry that outsiders are probably unaware of?
Talent isn’t enough these days. Relationships and networking are how you succeed in this industry. Being a talented Artist isn’t enough anymore. There’s a lot of politics behind the scenes, and most of the time, it’s just about who you know. Also, having some type of team is very important, everything can’t be done alone.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
One of the most frequent questions I get asked is What does HBK mean? Am I heartbroken or do I break hearts? I’ve been both, but for me, it’s motivation. I move differently when I feel pain, love differently and trust differently. The type of Artist I am, I only want to rap about real experiences or relatable topics. My relationships and what was going on in my life at the time weren’t happy, but it was real. I use music as an outlet to express myself emotionally. My goal is to inspire other creatives with my music and help them get through whatever it is they going through.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?

Yes, I’d like to shoutout 1500 Sound Academy and all my Fam there! My incredible teachers like Lauren Gaspard, Jamie Blake, and Doug Fenske. The school changed my life and made me a better Artist, Businessman & person. Big Thanks to the Founders, Larrance Dopson & James Fauntleroy!
