We had the good fortune of connecting with Cathy J. Hood and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Cathy J., can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I created Pristine Initiative, LLC because I wanted to create change in the public relations realm. I’ve worked for and have worked with many top PR agencies that didn’t have the client’s best interest. They focused on the bigger picture rather than helping clients to reach their target market organically. A lot of PR agencies are only in business for the “clout.”

At Pi, we have real relationships. We focus on “people” stories and authentic experiences. We are in the industry to develop thought leaders and position them as outliers in their fields.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Pristine Initiative, LLC is a woman-owned and minority-operated boutique public relations agency located in Hollywood, California.

We are on a mission to INFLUENCE, ENGAGE, and IDENTIFY opportunities for outlier markets. What sets us apart from other agencies is our willingness to connect the dots and secure an array of opportunities beyond press and media coverage for our clients. Our fresh approach helps clients discover innovative ways to engage the public through the power of positive messaging, brand awareness, digital campaigns, brand partnerships, and community outreach.

Our main goal is to share “people” stories and elevate the diverse voices within the communities in which we live and work.

As a small PR agency, we face many challenges every day. There are many PR agencies and PR professionals in the market. We are always competing for more job opportunities. What keeps us afloat is our work ethic and connections. Our services have been promoted via word of mouth because we deliver quality results and go above and beyond to secure opportunities for our clients.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
The first place I would take my friend is to Runyon Canyon for a nice hike in the Hollywood hills. I go to Runyon almost every day. I’m also a foodie! I love eating at some of the best mom and pop restaurants in Los Angeles. I would then take my friend to my favorite vegan Indian restaurant in Glendale called India Sweets & Spices. They have great pani puri which is a delicious Indian snack dish. For the night life, La Mesa in Hollywood is the place to go.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to give a shout out to my family! To my mother, Denise Hood, and to my brother, Aaron Hood. Throughout my life and career journey, I’ve been blessed to have a very supportive family who has helped me to be who I am today.
