We had the good fortune of connecting with Heather Leon and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Heather, is your business focused on helping the community? If so, how?
I am truly blessed to have been able to teach the Classical Pilates technique, for the past 25 years, as it was originally designed by the creator, Joseph Pilates. The original method transforms people’s lives from the inside out. With consistent practice, students are able to get into shape, redesign their physique and overcome injuries and limitations. Other benefits include: a deepening of the mind/body/spirit connection, an increased sense of well being and improved stamina. Having operated two Pilates studios in the Los Angeles area for over two decades and traveled overseas to conduct teacher training programs, I have been able to touch many lives and disseminate the traditional Pilates teachings on a scale that I could have never imagined. Currently, I am also offering Pilates mat classes and private sessions online during a very difficult period that we are all navigating.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
For starters, I would venture to say that the path to success in business is not an easy one. My personal success story has been built with many years of hard work, dedication and devotion. Early in life, I followed my passion for dance, beginning at the age of four. Through my early teenage years, then high school and college years, I spent most of my time dedicated to academics and perfecting my dance technique in the dance studio. As a trained dancer, I was a prime candidate for the Pilates technique. After being offered a full scholarship to study and teach the method, I quickly decided that this was a perfect way to parlay my many years of dance training into a field where I could then teach others body awareness and functional movement. I was trained at a time in 1994, when there were very few Pilates studios in Los Angeles and had the great privilege of studying directly with Romana Kryzanowska, who worked with Joseph Pilates for 50 years. Having this direct Pilates lineage is a great distinction and honor for which I hold near and dear to my heart. One may find many versions of the Pilates technique being taught in 2020, however few have dedicated themselves to the purity of the method.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Well, given the current period we are living through, I would recommend outdoor destinations if possible. For example, a walk at Palisades Park on Ocean Avenue, a drive down PCH in Malibu and perhaps lunch or dinner at Geoffrey’s. Or perhaps a hike in the Pacific Palisades at Temescal Canyon.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Once again, I am very blessed to have had 2-3 spiritual mentors whom offered tremendous support and guidance on my journey. As an entrepreneur, you will inevitably face obstacles and challenges. In my experience, faith, gratitude and tenacity are necessary in order to overcome these tests. Outside of that, a willingness to continue to learn and empower oneself on the journey is also paramount. Acclaimed authors such such as Eckhart Tolle, Ester Hicks, Joe Dispenza and Dale Carnegie are but of the few I have studied for personal empowerment.
